http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,1982108,00.html

Lets say Obama gets UN sanctions by THIS week(optimistic) and then lets 6 months for the sanctions to take effect; by then Iran *could* be six months away from having the bomb. But what if they are closer, lets say, 6 MONTHS? Then what?

Look I consider myself an moderate Independent, but the truth is that I'm scare for the security of the US and I keep waiting to wake up and see on CNN: "Breaking News, US and Israli forces took down what is to believe a nuclear facility in Iran...". Anyways, what are your thoughts?

I think this is an annual event now. Make up an arbitrary period of time until Iran has the bomb. Incredibly, despite building many more and improved centrifuges, the time period keeps getting longer.

I agree but they will not.We would also be stupid to give up our bombs because as soon as we did we would be blown away. Many nations hate america and as much as it pains me to say it we need our nukes. The only way to be nuke free is to get everyone to throw them out and that will never happen.

Hmm if the terrorist have the means to secure one then yes!Irans government has ben linked to helping some of the terrorists get their hands on stuff too.It would take one loose suit case nuke to level a city.

No, but I would say it's as good a time as any to start building a bomb shelter and filling it with beef jerky and water.

This is very scary, a number of things are happening in the region that seem to be the lead up to a war;

  • United States shipping bombs to the area
  • Iran President urging people to leave the captial over "Earthquake" fears
  • Sryia arming Hizbullah with Scud missiles
  • Israelies warned to leave Egypt

I'm not usually so paranoid about stuff like this but it seems like something serious is beginning. One things for sure, the United States and Israel will never allow Iran to get a nuclear bomb, there will be a war anytime between now and a year.

There's little the U.S. can do in a situation like this, and it's important not to overreact, either. Any military action would probably be counterproductive.

I think we've been hearing this for so many years now. It's another one of those scare tactics the US loves to use. i.e weapons of mass destruction anyone?

I honestly don't think they're dumb enough to USE a nuke if they make one. If they have one so what? India and Pakistan are probably more likely to use their nukes than Iran would be to use their nuke.

I'm pretty sure Iran like every other country follows a policy of self preservation. If they were to use a nuke they would be bombed back to the stone ages. The real reason nobody wants them to have a nuke is because then they will have an upper hand in the middle east, tensions will arise, and every other middle eastern country will start making nukes. Also because the US has interests in the middle east and Iran having a nuke will threaten those interests.

Also Israel have around 300 (unoffically), you can be sure that they'd never allow Iran to get the bomb.

In that case the US should let Israel deal with it's own problems. They've shown themselves to be capable of military action so there's no need for anyone else to get involved.

We're not necessarily concerned with them actually launching the missile towards U.S. or her allies. We're more concerned as to whether they will give the nuclear bomb to the terrorists and the terrorists will put one in a major city.

I'd be more worried about them selling a bomb on the black market than them trying to make a missile to deliver it. Although there is still the possiblity that Iran just want to be a nuclear power for energy, who are the U.S to asume anything?

Israel is the only one I am worried about. Those nutjobs are more likely to fire their weapons then anyone. Iran hasn't attacked a country in 600 years... whos to say they would all of a sudden? They have absolutely no need to attack.

My thoughts on the matter as well.

I have my doubts about Iran being a real, serious threat to Israel, and I think the Israeli government has its doubts as well. If the Israeli government was really worried about Iran, it wouldn't be worsening relations with its closest and strongest ally - the U.S., with all this settlement nonsense and just the Palestinian issue in general.

There are two real dangers with Iran having a bomb - it could trigger a nuclear arms race in the region, and it can also be used as blackmail on the west and our allies, and make it easier for the mullahs to take risks forcing their influence on neighboring countries, and possibly invade said countries. Saddam Hussein once said that the biggest mistake he ever made was invading Kuwait before he had the bomb. Iran's nuclear bomb ambitions are not just Israel's problem.

I'm on the fence in this matter; there are arguments for both sides

Pro-Iran: After the US illegally attacked Iraq according to International Laws, Iran has a right to be worried. Israel having nukes doesn't help either.

Pro-West: Tensions will rise and perhaps Iran would keep testing the West's patience if they can get away with building nukes.

We should give them a bomb.

The amount of paranoia over Iran having a bomb is laughable.

North Korea has nukes and is run by a certifiable nutjob and has been supplying peeps with weapons for decades.

Pakistan has nukes and half the military intelligence apparatus is run by Taliban loving spooks, half the country goes to madrassas shouting death to America, and most of the rest belongs to one group/tribe that has 100s of years of specialization is warring with the other tribes. Meanwhile, 100% of the politicians are clearly corrupt.

Whereas Iran has never invaded anyone, is actually run by very conservative leaders, notwithstanding the puppet they put out front ranting to generate political pride amongst the poor, and only modestly supports other Shiite groups, mainly against Sunni groups, which hate them more than they hate us.

If Iran had a bomb tomorrow, nothing would happen/change.....except maybe then they would be less paranoid about us invading them.

According to the U.S military there will be an Oil shortage around 2015, and now suddenly Iran is only a year away (strange, considering it was 3 years ago around 6-10 months ago).

Sounds like they're trying to justify military action in order to secure the oil.

Well there were probably plans and maybe even some attempts but they might have thought it was an empty threat so they dropped it. However if what they say is true, they definitely would have plans on how to take down Iran if they truly develop one.

Iran has threatened to destroy Isreal time and again, let me ask you this...would you allow somebody to own a gun if they recently threatened to shoot someone?

The Iranian leadership is not suicidal. Using a nuke would be just that. We would launch a full nuclear counter attack, not to mention Israel itself has a nuclear arsenal as well. Iran wants nukes to assure it can't be nuked itself. They want to get into the assured mutual destruction safe zone. I don't blame them either. If I had a hostile nuclear neighbor like Israel, I'd be trying to get them too.

There is not one super power right now that supports Iran. Maybe a few Middle Eastern countries would be molly-wopped, but it would be far from WW3.STurn21

Russia are supporting Iran, they're the ones who are supplying them with anti-air weapons.
