I bought Nirvana's album Nevermind about 6 months ago and absolutely love this album. Can anyone suggest any other awesome Nirvana albums? Are there any other grunge bands that are just as awesome or better?viscerontoo many awesome bands to name, but i can't wait for when the movie Nirvana is made !
All Nirvana albums are good, there's only 3 actual albums, then a B-side album, then the box set with a load of demos and rough cuts or unreleased songs, then live and unplugged in New York, then From the Muddy banks of Wishka which is a compilation of songs from various tours spanning over 4 years I believe..
Well you already know about all the BIG grunge bands, Sreaming Trees gained a lot of critical acclaim and I liked a song they made. I don't really know of any other grunge bands, wish there were more.
Pearl Jam everything > Nirvana everything
Bleach is a decent Nirvana album though if you're looking for more Nirvana music, but Ten by Pearl Jam is much better.
pearl jam > nirvana
stone temple pilots, soundgarden, alice in chains are good too.

Pearl Jam: Ten is one of my all time fav albums you gotta give it a listen. Also Soundgarden is pretty good imo.
I reccomend Blackoutband. They're really good and have little recognition.AzurrFinally got around to listening to Blackoutband. Now I have to ask were you serious? I couldn't it help but laugh while listening to their music. Not really laughing at them, just not music I could take seriously. Here is a link to Blackoutband.
In Utero, because Steve Albini produced it and everything Steve Albini produces is at least 25% better than it would have otherwise been.
Nirvana's such an overrated pop band, though.
Well, without Husker Du, nobody would've signed to major labels in the first place.I always thought that New Day Rising or Flip Your Wig by Husker Du should have been the alt. rock breakthrough that Nevermind started
Plus the Huskers were a much better band...

Nirvana's influence on music is overrated. They didn't kill hair metal, because bands like Sonic Youth and Husker Du were already getting popular before Nevermind. They didn't make teenagers angry - their parents did that. Nirvana was only good for ripping off a Killing Joke riff (which was a riff that was originally from the Damned) and making teenagers think they like underground music.

Love them or hate them...they did get the genre noticed.Nirvana's influence on music is overrated. In Utero (sp?) is really good, just make sure to buy the unedited one. Also, while Nevermind is a great album, I personally prefer Pearl Jam's "Ten", so you may want to check it out.
Well, Sonic Youth and Husker Du never got the MASSIVE popularity that Nirvana did, but they were still popular for after they signed to major labels and started playing on TV.Sonic Youth, Husker Du never acheived the same level of popularity that Nirvana did. Thurston Moore was hosting shows on MTV a year before Nirvana became humongous, so there was an alt. rock presence on MTV as well as in the mainstream as a whole with bands like R.E.M. and U2.
Many people speak as if Nirvana came out of nowhere and made all of these bands popular, but that wasn't the case.

Alt rock was popular way before Sonic Youth.:|LJS9502_basicAre we going to get into an argument of semantics, now?
I really have to thank you for introducing me to Screaming Trees. I have only heard 12 of their songs so far, but loved every one of them.Well you already know about all the BIG grunge bands, Sreaming Trees gained a lot of critical acclaim and I liked a song they made. Are we going to get into an argument of semantics, now? I'm trying to understand your point. You are saying if I read your correctly that Nirvana wasn't that important because Sonic Youth already existed and made alt popular...but Sonic Youth also built on the past. So I don't get your point here.[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"]Alt rock was popular way before Sonic Youth.:|Greatgone12

Screaming Trees sounds interesting, I'll have to check them out too.

My original point was that Nirvana didn't solely make alt. rock popular, contrary to what many people claim, because bands like Sonic Youth and Husker Du already had a mainstream presence.
Maybe I'm a bit confusing, because I'm trying to say a lot of things at once...Okay....but alt is even older than those two bands. The thing with Nirvana was that they hit so big and became vastly mainstream. Somewhat like The Beatles in that even those that didn't listen to the genre knew the name of the band...if you can understand my point there. It's the non fan...ie general population that got a taste and not the fans of the actual genre. My original point was that Nirvana didn't solely make alt. rock popular, contrary to what many people claim, because bands like Sonic Youth and Husker Du already had a mainstream presence.

I don't think that's completely true.Greatgone12What's not true? And I'm listening to music so I don't want to click. To what does your link lead?
Uh, are there two bands called New Day Rising? Allmusic says they from the 2000's. The music on myspace is definitely newer music and not really grunge. The songs on playlist.com sounded older and just like grunge with lots of screaming. Or did I just misinterperate what you said?I always thought that New Day Rising or Flip Your Wig by Husker Du should have been the alt. rock breakthrough that Nevermind started
Plus the Huskers were a much better band...

The first link was Husker Du playing on the Joan Rivers Show, the other link was Husker Du playing on some Twin Cities daytime talk show.Greatgone12Ah yes I'm not arguing that those bands didn't get airtime. And I'm not especially a Nirvana fan...they were okay and I like a lot of their music but they aren't in my pantheion of godly music. It's just that Nirvana hit huge like The Beatles. Does that mean we should worship either band? Absolutely not. But Nirvana hitting did get people to check out and find some better bands...which helped the genre.

Maybe I cheated.
