Seriously. Seems every site I go to there is always some thread made by an European or Canadian saying, Why is your drinking such and such, why is that not legal, why is this legal, why dont you do whatever we do..Blah Blah Blah. I never got why you care so much, not like what our laws affect you, what does it matter to you if we use a different math system or dont use a 24 hour clock? So here is my question to you, Why the heck do you people care about what we or anybody else does?

Better question, why do you care? Some seem truely baffled that America does things different. So answer the question, why do you care? I want to know why.

I have a question; why the persecution complex? People ask/discuss the various querks or many countries/cities/societies. It makes life interesting.

Personally, I don't. I guess some people just don't understand why others do things differently to them.

Listen. 1. It wasnt a question it was trolling. 2. Hilarious you seem to think that was addressed to you.

How on earth was i trolling? :? I answered your question and asked you one too, on the same topic. Your immediate post after that was saying 'people are dodging the question', which you didn't address to anyone in particular, so you cannot then put the blame on others when they feel it is addressed to them.

As for the thread, i'll elaborate further: About two or three days ago there was a thread about why the UK has you drive on the left side of the road. There was an official reason why but i cant remember what it was. Yesterday there was an awesome thread about a crazy bird native to Australia. A few weeks ago there was a thread about the European Union and whether or not it's a good thing. Yesterday there was a thread about the blockade in Gaza. Nobody in these tales said 'why do you care?' and expressed offense/irritation/annoyance at these questions being asked.

My point being that, as i said in my first post, people discuss the quirks of many countries/cities/towns/societies all the time. It's interesting. My question regarding a persecution complex was not trolling by any means, but just highlighting the fact that there is no reason to be annoyed/irritated by this.

The comment was in no way intended to annoy/mock you. :? But i feel you add further evidence to the point, seeing as that was your reaction to it. The EU thing was not at all about 'the broad, sweeping effects on the world' but about how it is taking power away from countries like the UK and how there's an unbalance between the money you pay in taxes for the EU and the benefits you get back. My question regarding a persecution complex seems completely valid, as it's become more and more common in America these days after the world seemed to turn against the country due the foreign policy decisions of the Bush administration.

You, for one, seem to take these questions as 'putting the country down', but i really dont see how a curious question regarding the drinking law being 21 is intended to 'put you down' or cause any offense. That's always been a question of contention, as the age in the states is higher than so many other western societies. Nobody has INSULTED america because of that law, only questioned it and discussed it which is perfectly reasonable. The digital economy bill which was proposed in the UK a few months ago was also discussed here negatively as a bad piece of law; that doesn't mean people were trying to offend the British or 'put down' the country. Like i said, that is the response you're choosing to have, not the desired one.

As for your final comment, nobody (not i, at least) has said that you are NOT ALLOWED to ask this question, i have only said why the question itself is flawed and derived from an ill-founded sense of persecution. You speak as though there is a damning question about America every 10 minutes; there is not. And i'll further disagree with you that the ratio is 4:1 - perhaps you merely notice more threads about America because it is your country. It would make sense if there WERE more questions, however, as proportionally speaking it's the largest western nation and this is a board of around 90% westerners.

I feel this quote best represents my comment regarding persecution:

If thats all why act confused and put the nation down? Also why do you only ask about the USA and not other nations? We are the focus.MoonMarvel

You seem to feel that there is a relentless inquisition as to the ways of American life, all intended to degrade and put down the nation, and that these efforts are exclusively focused on America and do not occur with other countries at all.

That is a persecution complex; an idea that people are out to get you, when they are not. That's just my opinion on the matter.

It's how we gather intelligence on the nation and then afterwards we compile it together to better see just how we can destroy the nation. =P Or it could just be curiousity since your Nation is different from the rest of ours in manners we find, good, interesting or bad and thus seek information to answer on our questions and thoughts about the matters.

The electoral college, its possible someone to lose the popular vote and still win the election. Needs to be fixed. And yes a lot did at one point.

Probably not as well as citizens of the U.S.The extent of my knowledge reaches as far as that each state has a certain amount of voting power based on population, therefore Texas and California would be the most influential.I think.

The electoral college...yeah. But many times if you add up the popular votes...you would see someone didn't dominate with the total votes that could/should have been cast. Republicans tend to come out more than Democrats to vote. Many people are unfortunately apathetic and don't vote. I think we should do away with the electoral college and just go popular vote. And if I recall...Gore had the popular vote for the first election.

The electoral college was inacted to give the less populated (by whte males) in the south a voice in the government. It's not necessary any longer. And what with the Florida debacle.....who is to say Gore shouldn't have been president.

Florida should have had to revote rather than recount. IMO.

I didn't say otherwise, i was only explaining why some people feel America is 'under fire' from other people. You may not feel that way, but others clearly do as evidenced by threads like this whereby someone feels the internet is constantly attacking America and its 'way of doing things'.

Again, you are taking a simple question and making into some sort of mass paranoia. Thats all you have been doing.MoonMarvel
I'm not making it into mass paranoia, i'm making it into individual paranoia. You continually refer to your 'simple question' but your simple question is asking why the world continuously puts down America in threads about its laws, and i have answered that question. You simply do not like the answer. The answer being that they dont. There is no mass of threads on a daily basis never-endingly putting down the United States, and contrary to what you said, other countries are also the focus of questions/debates on a regular basis.

Not that I want to get involved in your argument...but yes...anti American threads are rather common. And that means the US is a focus to enough people from outside the US to merit all the threads....or even occasion post out of place in threads.

Anti-american sentiments are all over the place; look at this very thread. I'm not debating that. What i am saying is that there is no reason to get irritated/offended by threads asking why the drinking age is 21. And there is further no need to insinuate that those asking said questions do so to 'put you down' - like i said, people ask questions about countries/laws/societies all time. Example thread - 'Why do you drive on the left in the UK - what's up with that?' Exactly the same as 'why on earth do you have to be 21 to drink?', yet the latter is interpreted as an effort to put the country down; why? It's like Bill O'Reilly's rants against anyone who says anything remotely critical of America - 'they're not patriots! they hate this country!' etc etc. It's not like that.

Obsession? Only curious. Although some of us non-americans may seem obsessed and can not understand that doing something in another way than we are, is good. But that is an individual difference you will find everywhere
