America's omnipresent in our everyday life, so it's logical we're interested in your way of doing things. It's mostly harmless, genuine curiosity.

Dont get involved, no reason to. But yes anti american threads are common and he took the entire thread out of context. I didnt even say put america down in the OP, I addressed that later.MoonMarvelLet's have a reasonable discussion about this, because my last post was a big one and you completely ignored it in favour of telling me i got it all wrong. How so? First i'll address what you just said: 1) I took the whole thread out of context Explain how. What did i do which took it so out of context? You asked a question - that question wanted to know why the world is obsessed with the way America does things. I answered that questions; that people aren't obsessed with America, and that people talk about the strange laws/quirks of countries/societies/cities all the time. What have i taken out of context? I answered your question, did i not? I then added a question of my own; why do you feel like America is being singled-out? Why the sense of persecution? Why get offended/irritated by people just talking about interesting things? It was after that that you said people were out to get you/put you down as a nation, which only further backed up my original point about the sense of persecution. What have i got so horribly wrong?
Are you done? Did you even read the OP or just the thread title and chose to attack? The only person irritated/offended in here is you.MoonMarvel*sigh* I have not attacked anyone >_> You asked a question on a given topic, i am attempting to discuss it with you. If you would rather the thread be exclusively for those who agree entirely, fair enough. The constant accusations of trolling/attacking/offending you when all i have done is attempt to discuss the topic you have created are uncalled for. I have done absolutely nothing of the sort.
[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"] Not that I want to get involved in your argument...but yes...anti American threads are rather common. And that means the US is a focus to enough people from outside the US to merit all the threads....or even occasion post out of place in threads.Ninja-BearAnti-american sentiments are all over the place; look at this very thread. I'm not debating that. What i am saying is that there is no reason to get irritated/offended by threads asking why the drinking age is 21. And there is further no need to insinuate that those asking said questions do so to 'put you down' - like i said, people ask questions about countries/laws/societies all time. Example thread - 'Why do you drive on the left in the UK - what's up with that?' Exactly the same as 'why on earth do you have to be 21 to drink?', yet the latter is interpreted as an effort to put the country down; why? It's like Bill O'Reilly's rants against anyone who says anything remotely critical of America - 'they're not patriots! they hate this country!' etc etc. It's not like that. Well as I said I'm not getting into the argument. Just stating that it happens. And while I have no problem with asking questions...it's the undercurrent in some such questions. Like your bear in the sig by the way....
That can always be a factor; at times a question can be a thinly veiled criticism. As for the bear, your complements have pleased him. You will be spared.Well as I said I'm not getting into the argument. Just stating that it happens. And while I have no problem with asking questions...it's the undercurrent in some such questions. *sigh* I guess calling me paranoid multiple times doesnt equal attacking/trolling/offending to you. You even accused me of only wanting people whp agree with me in this very post. I asked a simple and you have time and time again tried to make me look like I am a looney wearing a tin foil hat. Seriously, you are making this bigger than it needs to be.MoonMarvelI was merely making a point about persecution; that you feel people are out to put down America exclusively. That is not trolling/insulting/attacking you. It was just a point of view. The very fact that you took it as a personal assault on you only adds weight to it in the first place, don't you think? :? As for my second point about you only wanting people to agree with you, i feel it was a reasonable point given the fact that you have ignored most of the points in my posts in favour of accusing me of trolling/attacking/whatever other terrible thing i may have done.
There is not an obsession. America infulances the world when it comes to TV and Movies. The more people see TV programmes and movies based in Americathen the more random question people have about what they see. When people watched the Borat movie they asked question and wanted to know more about Kazakhstani. They even had a big increase in visitors.
Americans are very vocal about America so you get a lot of people questioning that as well.
When it comes to forum you have to remember that America is the biggest native English speaking country on the net. People know if they ask a question about America then someone will see it and answer it. If you asked a random questions about the EU country Slovenia then it could take much longer for someone to answer or you might not get a answer so it doesn't come up as much.
It is one a one way thing TC... it goes the other way too, if you fail to see that there would be some merit in what you posted (there are some people that dislike certain things in the US, sure).
But you sort of miss the picture when you does not acknowlage that people from the US ask the same kind of questions to Canadians, Europeans, Russians, and so on.
It is simply because everyone have the ability to that they do it, sometimes something baffels them, other times they do not understand the principles, and sometimes it is just for information on the mindset of that part of the world.
I can not really see how that should annoy you TC... If people never asked, or atleast tryied to understand any other nation, the planet would be a bombed out wasteland by now.
Everyone comes from different backgrounds with different upbringings, with different morales, and different points of view.

See, this is what I was looking for. An honest answer. Thats all.I think in reality we just love you, but we are afraid to show it. By pestering you about your way of life, we only want to hint at our affection without it being too obvious. :oops:guthwulf_deWoah.....long time no see.

You've made about 50.000 post since then, so it's gotta be at least a month. :P Good to know that you can stay in OT without being struck by the banhammer eventually.
I wish we switched to a 24 hour clock......X360PS3AMD05Whos stopping you? You can use one if you want. :P

Basic obvious reason is they love to impose your laws on others. Your media, enough said already and just to nail the coffin I will say DISNEY! Especially old school Disney, I think they are trying to tidy up a bit now.
It's good fun to hate on Americans although we don't (always) mean it. Your country is like a super model with a perfect set of teeth just gagging for some nutter to come up and headbutt you in the face where all the crowd will just burst out laughing.
Evil_Saluki
thank you for your honesty rofl, and I assumed as much as well.
Its not so much jealousy as it is wanting to see an airplane crash and burn, no?

I always think of it as dwelling on negatives (or supposed negatives) because then one doesn't have to dwell on the negatives of their own society....[QUOTE="mrbojangles25"][QUOTE="Evil_Saluki"]

I will be honest...I have travelled all over the world, and I just cannot imagine living anywhere but California, or the US, for that matter.
Its only fun to poke somebody with a stick if they react, and there are always American's that overreact like the ones in this thread claiming the other nationalities are bullying you with their relentless curiosity. Seriously though over here in the UK we poke fun all the time at everyone, you react you get it worse :P and I notice Australian's and Canadian's seem to be the same while not being quite as defensive as some of you are.
Probably because we have alot of behind the times laws and regulations compared to every other 1st world country.
[QUOTE="MoonMarvel"][QUOTE="MagikarpSplash"]What's wrong with asking?pete_merlinBetter question, why do you care? Some seem truely baffled that America does things different. So answer the question, why do you care? I want to know why. its called getting to know how things go in a different country yes, they ask so they know, as they want in on the downlow.
