Oh man, it was a real hard choice sifting through the submissions, but the winner of today's argument is none other than Makhaidos!
(I love that I can choose the winner now)

@THE_DRUGGIE: Your decision to stereotype gays so much really doesn't help your argument.
I'm actually having trouble finding the stereotype.

Thank you, thank you. I'll be here all weekend. I have no life.
i'm married and i want to feel special. if "the gays" marry, that will make my marriage less special! i am against "the gays" marrying..
The homosexuals are secretly gay.
So they're Republicans!
GOP. Gay Old Party.

"In fact, they're pretty fun lads and lasses who love talking about stuff"
How about you stop stereotyping homosexuals as introverted grumps.

I'm not, you seem to be very confused.
You're stereotyping so hard that you don't even realize it.

Wow, you're trolling your own thread.
Nah, if I was trolling I'd be calling you a poopy butt or something.

No, you're trolling. You create a thread and stereotype a group of people, then accuse others of doing the same when you're called out on it.
Am I also a mole man?
So what's the difference between civil unions and marriage? It probably differs state-by-state, but why would people be OK with gay civil unions but not gay marriage?

A civil union doesn't grant the same rights and benefits as a marriage.
I see. How does one get civil unionized vs. married? Do people who are against gay marriage, but okay with civil unions, just want a procedural difference in the state that lets them go through the formalities, but just cannot claim marriage on taxes and in hospitals, etc? Like when they apply for the marriage certificate, they check the Civil Union box instead of the Marriage box?

It's a case of separate but equal. It's just another form of discrimination.

So what's the point of civil unions to begin with?
I dont get it either. I see absolutely no harm in letting two people who like each other get married.

Freud would have a thing or two to say about that elephant's trunk. . .

I don't get what all the fuzz is about, because atheists can also get married. And there is nothing Christian about it, no church or religious rituals are involved.
So I'd guess that a gay marriage is about the same, it's purely secular.

I know there are some churches that perform same sex marriages. But yeah most of them will be done in a secular manner.

Marriage is marriage regardless of whether it's in a church or not. I don't think that's the issue. I'm still wondering why some people want gay marriage to be civil union only - is it because they don't want them to get tax benefits or visitation rights, etc?

Some very stupid people think marriage is a religious thing. They are also homophobic.
