[QUOTE="Pessu"]Boohoo racism, racism! Something bad happens between a white and a black person and suddenly the white person is a member of the KKK. But somehow black people are allowed to hate and discriminate whites all they want? Ok i'm not an american but thats what it looks like to me.Pythos77

...when did that ever happen? who the hell even suggested that? Maybe you should stop talking because you don't know what you're talking about.

That happens every day just turn on MTV or VH1 or any other channel. and then there is BET black entertainment television. imagine there was WET it would be shut down in less than a week. If a black guy mugs a white guy beats him up and calls him a craka as Punk ..he would get locked up and end of story but turn it around and have a white guy do it and shout (THE "N" word). hes gonna get locked up as well but with the added charges of a hate crime

If you think the word cracker carries the same weight as the N-word you're delusional, that's all I have to say

To everyone that has called Al Sharpton racist is pretty much just wrong. Just because he fuels the issue of racism doesn't mean he is racist. He is however a radical who wants to see racism.

I do agree that there is absolutely no evidence that the cop shot him because he was black. If anything, I think most people would probably have done the same thing.

The off duty cop acted with horrible judgement when he chased someone in the dark with his gun drawn. And unless the gun was pointed at him, the on duty cop should have shot to cripple.

There is a "WET", its called The Hallmark Channel.

That's funny. Not to mention BET is owned by whites. Anyway Sharpton and Quanell are both jokes, trying to ride off the civil rights era.

I think it was the stupid cop who decided to run through the streets with a loaded gun without the proper equipment on that should be at blame.

first every1 needs to ignore al sharpton. however there is a probem if u bother reading some of the articles about this in the new york times, things like this keep happening in 2006 an officer shot another officer in the back in a subwaystaion. i dont feel its racsim but when u have younger cops and a mentality that sees a blackman as a bigger threat there is a problem. in almost all of these cases the cop who fired broke procedure, the problem is that they seem more likley to break procedure when itis a minority,im sure the cop who fired feels horrible and is not a racsit in any way .

thats ridiculous cops pull out there guns in order to stop crimes when they r in plain clothes all the time. u r never really of duty as a police officer if u c a crime in progress ur suppose to step in and stop it. most cops especially in large cities carry there guns and badges when they r out in public

He ran through the streets with a brandished weapon to chase a person who was trying to break into his car but fled. That seems very stupid to me. Chances are he wasn't yelling at the perp like normal cops do stating that they are cops and to stop. That is common practice and is one of the things taught to cops durign training.

Leave it to Sharpton to turn something tragic into a race thing. Accidents happen, it's part of the job for law enforcement. Besides, one shot to the chest is a 'sensible' act considering the situation. The others? Forty shots and emptying full clips? That's when things get suspect.

we dont really know if he did or didnt, but he just as easily could have been a citizen who ran out of his house to stop some1 from breaking into his car, plus he didnt raise his weapon acording to reports so far. the problem is that this isnt an isolated incident a cop was shot in the back in 06 while he was chasing some1 in the subway and followed all procedure.there is definintly a problem when this keeps happening to minority officers. many of the people from the nypd interviwed feel as if some of those officers r alot faster to shoot when it is a minority, not out of racsim but more out of fear. with that i dont feel the officer invloved should be sent to prison just relieved of duty and mayb 5 years probation

Let's think about this for a second. You're off duty, you see a crime in progress so you do what you are taught and try to remedy said situation. You're unaware if said perp has a weapon of any kind so you unholster your own. Now... I'm trying to find the stupidity in this. This seems very formulaic and by the book. There's no telling if he did state that he was an officer initially, but from the story, it seems that he was in mid chase where, really, unless he's screaming "Stop! Police!" every five seconds, there's no way for the other officer to tell until it was too late.

I wouldn't just shout out, "Racist!" without some background info. I mean, you're a cop, on duty, and you see a black guy chasing a white guy with a gun in his hand. Hate to be racist, but I mean, what would you do? Even if it was a white guy chasing a black guy, there would be no difference.

You honestly think that guy would have put his career on the line simply because the guy was black? People these days....

[QUOTE="Ninja-Hippo"]The fact is nobody can comment on this. We dont know what happened. Calling it racism is just as silly as dismissing anyone who says it is. We dont know. The only guy who does is that white cop. Did shoot him because he saw a black guy who he thought was a criminal and decided he wanted to use his gun? Maybe. Was it a genuine mistake? Maybe. Either way, it was horrible judgment. This is the problem with giving cops guns if you ask me. Here, they'd have chased that guy down and arrested him for stealing a car. Or maybe he'd have gotten away. Tough luck. But when you give cops guns it suddenly becomes acceptable to gun someone down over a frickin' car.

Regardless of what information we have on this specific event, Al Sharpton, is an idiot.

Information should have been put out that their was an officer out of uniform possibly carrying a handgun over the radio. This is no ones fault but the NYPD's.

ImaPirate0202

Do you knoww hat off-duty means? He wasn't working NYPD doesn't have officers chipped and know where they are every second... He was not working so he was dressed as a civilian.

Also to those saying he should've screamed he was a cop. He could've been undercover and didn't want to blow his spot meaning he may not have been working, but if he was in the wrong area to be saying he's a cop to someone trying to jack his car that would've put a lot at risk.

That would be an accident, and until I see anything showing he was racist, then he wasn't racist.

I see a number of people here that don't know what is meant when someone like Sharpton mentions racism in connection with incidents like this.

He is NOT saying that the cop shot the guy "putting his career on the line" because he wanted to murder a black man. He is saying that race (even if unknowingly) played a part in his decision making at the time. Sharpton believes (as do I) that if this were a case of a white man with a gun chasing a black man, he would have likely not reacted the same. Ask more questions. Try to be sure of what was going down. The issue highlights the fact that better training in procedures as well as cultural sensitivity are needed, and in no way does Sharpton pointing this fact out make him "racist himself". Thats crazy.

I also feel the need to point out something I saw on TV a few weeks ago. It was a court show (People's Court, I believe) where a white store owner shouted out racists remarks at a customer who annoyed him. The show polled people watching on if they thought the guy was racist, andEVERYONE said "I don't think he was racist. He just got angry and it "slipped" out".

People think Sharpton plays the race card. It seems to me that white america is in denial about what constitutes racist behavior. Everyone wants to say "I am sick of the race card". Well, what are you doing to eliminate it's need? Just saying "nothing is racially inspired anymore" doesn't cut it.
