I don't think Obama's draconian drug policy should be news to anyone considering he's been in office over three years now.

You realize that not every leftist is a pothead/hippie, right?

You do realize that even a pothead/hipper leftist or a leftist who wants the drug war to end can vote for the lesser of two evils, right?

You do realize that not every leftist cares about this issue, right?

Yup. For one thing, pot legalization is not my number one priority in voting for a President, or even congressman for that matter. Two, as bad as he might be on legalization he's still better than the Republicans. Three, both parties are still basing their stance on the safest political strategy. You go against pot and worst case scenario you lose a few low-demographic voters, you support pot and every so-called moralist in the country nails you to the wall for it. The way to pot legalization is changing opinions nationally, obtaining legal status locally, and showing in isolated areas how legalization will not cause a total societal collapse and will actually help the economy. That strategy is working, those in favor of legalization now have a slight majority. The day will come when there's enough political willpower to motivate a major candidate to change, and when it does then I will judge my support for a certain candidate on this issue, provided I don't think that voting for them would be a disaster in most other respects.

I don't consider myself left at all but I am still voting for him. He is a lot better than Romney.

Plus when you live in California like I do these legalization talks don't mean much at all because here I can still go to a store and pick up the finest buds, concentrates and edibles in all the land.

You had better check to make sure your local dispensary is still there before you make that statement.

Why, are they going to close it down because of a comment made on a video game website?

No, the feds just recently raided a ton of dispensaries around the nation I believe, and they did the same to that California pot college, though I have no idea exactly what they raided as they keep no actual pot on the premises.

I agree that drug laws are nonsensical but it isn't as if McCain or Romney are/were running on reasonable drug platforms either. The only pro freedom candidate last time around was Bob Barr and he was a reformed authoritarian himself.

Yes, because he's the only President who has taken this stance on pot. I wonder how Mitt Romney feels about this? I mean, one would think from reading your post that the first thing Willard would do when he got into office would be to legalize it.

Yeah they did close down a bunch of them in Los Angeles, but that is understandable as there were at least EDIT: there were 500 of them in 2009. of them in LA alone. And I guess at least 372 now or something.

it was in an LA weekly article I can't paste the url cause I'm using Opera

lol, nothing is going to ever be legalized anyway there is too much money to be made and fun to be had in the war on drugs.

i was watching a news special the other day and it made me laugh because the state troopers were operating 2 blackhawks (@ $8000 per hour) and rappelling into the woods to get pot.

who the hell would give that up? camping and almost zero risk pot seizures.

if it was about harm to the community they would be after meth but see... who the hell would go after meth heads and labs when they could be camping and having a blast jumping out of choppers on the taxpayer dime?

nobody that's who.

The only soft drug that should arguably be legalized is marijuana, and I think the culture around it needs to change a bit before that happens.

hey these harry anslinger quotes (some from his testimony to congress) is good for a laugh for those that have not seen them.

"There are 100,000 total marijuana smokers in the US, and most are Negroes, Hispanics, Filipinos and entertainers. Their Satanic music, jazz and swing, result from marijuana usage. This marijuana causes white women to seek sexual relations with Negroes, entertainers and any others."

"... the primary reason to outlaw marijuana is its effect on the degenerate races."

"Marihuana is an addictive drug which produces in its users insanity, criminality, and death."

"You smoke a joint and you're likely to kill your brother."

"marijuana is the most violence-causing drug in the history of mankind."

I agree with the President. Instead of legalizing why don't drug users just quit? WHO'S WITH ME!!!

*crickets chirping*

"more needs to be done to slow demand from within the United States"

Hah. Good luck with that. The pro-legalization crowd is VERY militant when it comes to getting high.

If it was ever legalized my house would look like a fvcking jungle. The whole block would reek. They should just decrimanalize it and let us have up to 3 ounces on person and 1 pound at home. I don't mind paying tickets but don't send me to jail for something so minimal.

You do realize that quite a lot of marijuana is grown locally by people within the community? Back in the day I always knew exactly where mine came from and it wasn't exactly Pablo Escobar.

I support the legalization of marijuana. It's a bummer our president does not, but he's upholding more important doctrines of democracy that I value more than pot right now, so I'll take that instead.

Until the day comes that we get a democratic nominee who is firm in legalizing weed, I'll just have to be okay with it being illegal from a federal level.

There have been more arrests of people with medical marijuana licenses in states where medicinal marijuana is legal under Obama's three years than in in the total of Bush's eight years. I find people who think liberals are going to be the ones who stand up against the drug war hilarious. These people don't believe in states' rights, the only thing they believe in is an overbearing federal government.
