limiting free speech through the fairness doctirine, there might be (or at least he will get assinated).JacobisthemanI'm pretty sure Obama isn't an advocate of the fairness doctrine. And of course if everything Obama does is met with negative public reception then the public would probably start to protest. The same can be said for the actions of any president. Besides, Obama is incredibly popular right now and for there to be any large scale riots or elaborate assassination plots it wouldn't be for a while, if ever.
[QUOTE="Ironcloud"]Today I had a rather frightening discussion with a coworker of mine about his thoughts on what's to come when Obama takes office. He believes that people are going to revolt and a new civil war will emerge. He's even told me that he bought several assualt rifles already so that he is prepared. Do any of you believe that something like a revolution could happen? Are there any findings in the news today that might support the idea that people are preparing for war?LosDaddie
Your co-worker sound like a faithful Limbaugh/Hannity listener and Fox News watcher.
The only type of people I've heard this "New Civil War" claim from have been neo-cons
Do you even know what "neo-con" means?

Well I had heard that he does, after looking into it more, he does a little bit, but not to the extreme that Hilary or some other poeple do, but he still does support it somewhat, read: "Obama and Biden strongly support the principle of network neutrality to preserve the benefits of open competition" http://www.barackobama.com/issues/technology/ sounds like the fairness doctrine to me. Well there won't be large scale riots, but as for elborate assassinations plots, there have already been a few, and there are bound to be a lot more.

Well there won't be large scale riots, but as for elborate assassinations plots, there have already been a few, and there are bound to be a lot more. I think Obama supports the fairness doctrine purely from a partisan and superficial standpoint. From an ideological standpoint I don't think he really gives a damn either way.
And how did those assassination plots end out? There are two types of individuals who would go so far to assassinate their own president. The first type of individual would be the radical idiot who operates on complete irrational thought (i.e. John Hinckley Jr.). And secret service now is a lot more tight and secure than it was during the 80's, so I highly doubt that there will be another HInckely-esque assassination plot carried out.
The second type of individual who would actually make an attempt on the presidents life is equally as radical as the former individual, but not nearly as stupid and while is somewhat irrational; they take extreme measures and precautions to guarantee the success of their plot. These are the John Wilkes Booth's of the world and they only surface when their nation is experiancing extreme turmoil which they believe to be the cause of their sitting leader, as was the case with Booth. So if there is to be any serious attempt on Obama's life it wouldn't happen unless he does something extremely dividing and controversial.
