I do not understand why people love this man so much, and why he happens to be a frontrunner in this campaign. Certainly, it is true, he is a very palatable and handsome figure (especially to young people like myself) but I feel that his campaign is based on mere flash, but no substance. He has no concrete plan for this country, except to bring about "change". What change? Changing your job from "Senator of Illinois" to "President of the United States", maybe? What else?

And his credentials are not very impressive either. Yeah, sure, he's been in the Illinois legislature and is even a senator in Congress, but considering that there have been people with even more substanial credentials who have dropped out of the race (Bill Richardson comes to mind here), I find it amazing that he managed to BS his way through completely so far, running on a campaign based on lofty things such as "hope" and "change". He should have been defeated a long time ago.

But despite this, I still hope this man will be nominated as the Democratic candidate. Hilary Clinton is a far greater threat than he is.

That's the problem with democracy - idiots and dolts choose unfit people as leaders just because they "can speak really good and look really nice".

I find him odd to be honest. He lacks adequate experience to retain the position of President of the United States. I am worried that he will obtain the democratic nomination and if that happens, I fear we will have another Republican in the White House for at least another four years..sighs!

If you want to know where he stands, why not visit his website or listen to him at debates?

Here you go:

Yes, we do. It's just that people like the OP are sometimes too flaky to actually listen to the man. They just hear how the media drools over how well spoken he is and act like he must not have a real message. He's never backed down from a policy question yet. If people would take 20 minutes out and educate themselves or watch some of the democratic debates, their questions would be answered. Again:

None of them have been President before, so all the candidates have limited experience. They'll all learn. Any of them will be fine.

The reality is that Clinton is far more devisive than Obama. If Hillary wins the nomination, the republicans will come out in record numbers just to keep "The Clintons" out of office again. Besides that, she strikes me as a sleezy politician and opportunist who seems to believe her own hype and seems to not think her **** stinks. A person that moved to NY not for the PEOPLE of NY, but in order to advance her political objectives.

The fact that he is more or less a noobie to high echelon politics is a good thing. Since Washington has lots of old, nasty trends that need to be broken.

I don't care what you say, he is much better than Hillary Clinton will ever be.

Clinton just lives for power, not to help the people of the US, or NY or Arkansas or wherever she has represented at a given time. It is about her, no one else.

God help America if she gets elected.

LukeAF24

Because I should have to spend half my evening writing by hand what is available for the world to see at barackobama.com?

Look, the simple point I'm making is that he has substance, should you care enough to find out what he's talking about. Should you care to inquire with an honest interest, rather than political spin as if to prove a non-existant point. I could turn around and say "buh buh...idunno what Hillary/McCain/Huckabee/Romney are about!" if I didn't take time out to read and listen.

lol. It's funny that you'd even knock someone enouraging someone else to read about someone's policies.

Next thing, you'll be saying, "hey! what are you doing reading! I tell ya...if you didn't have that pamphlet/book/article, you wouldn't even have the answer."

you phail.

What about Iraq? Iran? (Those links provide nothing but rhetoric...I like plans)

The Federal Reserve? - Personally, I'm not sure.

The failed drug war? - He believes more attention needs to be shifted towards treatment, as I recall. Less on harsh punishmens of first-time drug offenders. He's also all about more anti-drug education and community support to keep people off drugs in the first place.

Immigration? - That a great amount of reform is necessary. Border security *must* be enhanced and improved. That illegals should have a pathway to citizenship, as they're obviously not going back to where they came from, and it would cripple our economy anyway.

"Number one, everybody uniformly believes that we have to improve border security. Almost everybody believes that have to have some sort of virtual wall across our borders that will limit the enormous influx, thousands of people, who are coming through places like Arizona with impunity every day, often at great risk to themselves. So, that means we have to have more border patrols, we have to have unmanned drones that are surveying the area. We've got to have better detention centers so that you don't essentially have a situation where you are catching people, and then immediately releasing them because there's no place to hold them. Most importantly you have to have a virtual wall that's built where employers essentially have to see a tamper proof identification card in order for them to hire workers, and we've got to enforce that so that if employers are taking advantage of illegal immigrants, they pay a serious fine, and there are consequences to it. We've got employers right now who actually call into Mexico and say, "I need 500 workers, I don't want to pay the workers in the area where my plant is located the minimum wage," and essentially use illegal workers as a way of undermining health safety protection laws, minimum wage, and so forth." - Obama

Obviously he doesn't. He's always clear when he answers questions. It's the anti-Obama crowd that acts like all he does is get the people to shout like some Baptist preacher.

They need to give it a rest and find out what the hell he's talking about...because he may be your next President.

Nobody is going to force any of you to become LESS IGNORANT about who he is and what his plan is about. But clearly your web browsers aren't broken. Use them for something more than complaining or talking about games and get educated.

It's one thing to say you don't like his proposals and policies...if you don't support his stances. It's just dumb to say he doesn't have any.

in fact, I'll copy and paste some of the stuff directly from his website. For the obviously lazy.

I know his positions. And I don't agree with them. That's not my issue however.

My problem is the unfairness that exists within the media. The media is there to present facts about the candidates, instead they constantly go on the attack against Hilary Clinton, calling her too agressive and just generally being mean. And at the same time they praise Obama for meaningless things like his personality and connecting to young voters (a strategy that's been tried man times by the way, and never worked).

Ok, that's a different issue then.

I think the general perception of her is that she's a slimy politician. Her attack ads have been unnecessary. Bill's behavior has been over the top. Her attitude is one of entitlement to more power rather than working for the people.

So the media coverage of her is of no surprise to me.

MSNBC is generally pretty reasonable to her. Fox News is a different matter entirely.

MSNBC is generally pretty reasonable to her. Fox News is a different matter entirely.

I've never felt that she was anything less than sincere about her desire for change for the better for the working people. This is best demonstrated in the beginning of Biil Clinton's first term. Not only were the health care initiatives she was pushing bold, they were unprecedented (at the same time Bill was also trying to end discrimination of homosexuals in the military). In the end though both Bill and Hilary overestimated the countries call for liberal reform, and the Clintons returned to more moderate politics. Not because they weren't passionate or sincere but because the country wasn't ready.

The difference in this election though is that people are finally ready for reform and change (it just took 8 years of Bush for them to get ready).

I would argue that between all the candidates....Hillary and John have by far the most experience. Regardless of who becomes president, nothing will change. Nothing ever changes. Same ole two and four in Washington! If you ask me, no one in their right mind would willfully want to be president. What kind of life is that?

BECAUSE he is a good public speaker as I have said.. Americans don't look into politics enough to understand what they stand for they just listen to him and go oohhhh He speak goood!ferrari2001

Well, look what happenned in the last two elections; Bush sounded like a complete retard but everyone looked at him and said"Sure, he sounds dumb, but I bet there's more to him" Turns out there wasn't, he sounded like an idiot because he IS an idiot. So, I'm taking a lesson from the last elections and judging everything here on out solely on first impressions. Guliani is a child molester, Romney is in the market for souls, and Clinton will spank you with a ruler if you misbehave.

Here's the reasons:

  • He's black
  • He has a nice smile
  • The bandwagon of youth voting for him for no reason
  • He's in the most commercials
  • He says the word "change"
  • that's it

I'm glad someone is going the great length needed to defend Obama, most people see him for a few minutes on the news and say oh he looks good and is an articulate speaker so he must be a con or he must use this to cover up the fact that he has no experience, but thats not true at all they're just not willing to go any deeper into learning about him.

True, he isn't notably experienced. And he doesn't go into heavy details during his speeches, however he has clearly explained his ideas, opinions, beliefs etc.

Well...at least we know why YOU'RE voting for him.

[QUOTE="Dreams-Visions"]

[QUOTE="MsCortana"]I find him odd to be honest. He lacks adequate experience to retain the position of President of the United States. I am worried that he will obtain the democratic nomination and if that happens, I fear we will have another Republican in the White House for at least another four years..sighs!MsCortana

None of them have been President before, so all the candidates have limited experience. They'll all learn. Any of them will be fine.

I would argue that between all the candidates....Hillary and John have by far the most experience. Regardless of who becomes president, nothing will change. Nothing ever changes. Same ole two and four in Washington! If you ask me, no one in their right mind would willfully want to be president. What kind of life is that?

Of course, if you're voting based on experience, we'd all be voting for Fred Thompson. experience is only part of what must be considered. experience doesn't guarantee good future decisions. at best, it only predicts the odds of how often someone will make BAD decisions.

sometimes less experience (exposure) to Washington D.C. is a very good thing.

Dreams-Visions

If you want to know where he stands, why not visit his website or listen to him at debates?

Here you go:

Where Obama Stands on the Issues

now try not to look so ignorant next time.

I don't even know where he falls on the issues.rockon1215

Again:

Where Obama Stands on the Issues

Thank you Dreams. I was just about to post this, but I read the thread first.

obama may not have the experience or even provide concrete plans, but he is the best democratic pick imo. for some reason i dont trust hilary, and i feel she is getting more votes by the fact that bill is helping her out. this may come as sexcist, but i feel that many women are voting for hilary simply for the fact that she is a woman as well. back to the point, obama is firmly behind his ideas for his presidency, cant say the same for hilary- she'll change her views just to get more fans.

THATS a bandwagon I'm getting tired of. People hear his drug and foriegn policy and immediately sign up, not realizing under the surface he's still a religious conservative, meaning no abortions and gays are teh evil (along with fiscal policies that literally scare me).

I admire the man's integrity (somewhat), but I don't think I'd ever vote for him.
