[QUOTE="Optical_Order"][QUOTE="WhiteSnake5000"]The more he's out of church and focusing on his presidency, the better. Plus, I think deep inside Obama has a lot of doubt about Christianity and God. nimatoad2000
I'm sure not every President was crazy about church or religion in general.
Thing is, no one is going to vote an athiest into office. Gotta be christian.
and thats gotta change.. ... its this religious garbage and all the conservative people trying to slow down our progress that has us soo far behind europe in soo many differnet things.. the united states isn't even close to being at the forefront of technology or science anymore. Oh really, The US is behind europe in Tech? The only thing Europe is ahead with is cell phones and wireless networks, and that is only becuase of stupid American regulation.Oh yeah for sure. That's why I think Obama isn't as religious as the media portrays him.[QUOTE="WhiteSnake5000"][QUOTE="Optical_Order"]

Yeah, probably not.
I would say having a President with no religious beliefs would be ten times the accomplishment of having a black person or a woman for President.
It's already been done before. It can be easily argued that Thomas Jefferson was an athiest.
Well he is president of the United States of America...it is kind of a big deal... But yeah, I don't know, that is kind of a stretch in that he basically has not gone since he took office. I mean it is an hour a week, and for as much as he was pushing his Christian thing during his campaign he is kind of lacking in his rigor.ice_radonHow is his personal religious beliefs "a big deal"?
OH NOES TEH OBAMUS HASNT BEEN TO TEH CHURCH RECENTLIEH? Wow, people must be bored to death to find this interesting.
Wait a news channel ACTUALLY reported on this? wow.. must be desperate for stories. Also i am sure that it would be in the news if he had been going to church.. You know soemthing along the lines of " lacking behind on his duties as president..." etcetc.

He was a deist.
However, nowadays with the way christianity has spread, it's just not possible in the U.S. It would not happen.

He was a deist at best, a athiest at worst. Both sides are really easy to argue for. So there is a stong possiblity that Jefferson was ,in fact, an athiest.

I think there is much more evidence that suggests that he was a deist. One only has to look so far as to the Declaration of Independence where he writes of "Nature's God". He makes references to God in many of his writings. If he were an atheist he would not make said reference.[QUOTE="Optical_Order"][QUOTE="WhiteSnake5000"]The more he's out of church and focusing on his presidency, the better. In the Uk Religion isn't allowed to affect any discisions any member of parliment makes, I also think (Athlough not certain on the subject) that the Prime Ministers are actually advised not to attend church and that Tony Blair (Catholic) was not allowed to attend church for the entire length of his ministry except for weddings, funerals, remembrance day, other ceremonial occasions.
From an outside prospective I see the fact religion interfears in politics in the USA as one of its largest flaws. A European conservative would be considered quite liberal by United Sates standards.
