Obama: My Administration has taken its eyes off the ball on the economy

Okay, he actually didn't say his administration, he said "Washington", but technically his administration is part of Washington. Also technically his administration has focused on things other than the economy, some of which I had to do (i.e. national security, the war on terror).

But in other times it seems fair to say that the Administration did focus on other things like healthcare (though perhaps that could be economy related), the temporary moratorium on oil drilling after the BP oil spill (I guess you could argue that spills damage the economy, but you could also say the moratorium damaged the economy because people who worked on the rigs were out of work and oil companies lost revenue), the HHS mandate and other things.

Has Obama actually started eyeing the economy? I don't remember him actually performing actions that were meant to improve the economy. He's done things to hide the mess the economy is in, like more handouts, but I don't remember him doing anything that will actually improve the economy. ferrari2001

There's nothing that he can do about the economy besides more deficit spending. The current political climate in the U.S. demands debt reduction, ergo deficit spending cannot be pulled off. The fact that his previous round of stimulus prevented the U.S.A. from falling deeper into recession or even a depression obviously cannot be used to convince the House or Senate to pass more of them. Look at this thread, 90% of Americans have no idea what he did or why it worked because they know nothing about macroeconomics.
