I think that UK not inviting Obama for the Royal Wedding exactly shows in what regard UK holds USA.

LJS9502_basic

Lets see....

The U.K. presented the President of the United States a gift that was a desk hand crafted out of wood that was part of an historic anti-slave ship.

Obama presented the Prime Minister with a collection of DVD's (that were not in a format that could even be played in England). His follow up gift to the Queen was an I-pod filled with speeches he had given.

Not sure who holds who in what regard.

What an ego...an iPod filled with his speeches.

Ooh I want one of those! lol.

I really don't care for the 'special relationship'. To me its special in the sense that its very one sided, in everything, even extradition, its incredibly easy for UK-US extraditions but much harder for US-UK ones.

I guess the UK is now the US's colony.

I did like the UK codename for Obama though "smart alec". Good one.

I really don't see it as that special. I feel as if said relationship is taken a lot more seriously on the other side of the pond (seeing as how our alliance is much more important to the UK than it is to the US).

I think it's reciprocal. It would be arrogant of the US to take it for granted.....

I'm not taking it for granted, but aside from the nostalgia associated with the "special relationship" (which I couldn't care less about), the UK is just another western ally to the U.S. The U.S. isn't just another western ally to the UK - we also just so happen to be the world's sole superpower. The U.S. can accomplish what it wants to do internationally without the help of the UK - the same isn't true about the UK. The UK needs the U.S. to accomplish what it wants to do internationally. A great example is the Iraq War - for quite some time prior to the invasion Tony Blair really stressed the importance of getting rid of Saddam - it wasn't until the U.S. jumped on board that Blair's desire for regime change was realized.

With that said, the UK is still an important ally, and it is an alliance that shouldn't be taken for granted. But the U.S. doesn't depend on this alliance nearly as much as the UK does.

perhaps, most US news doesnt focus on obama unless its criticism.

IF he is doing things correctly its usually considered business as usual and nobody speaks of it.

Our news is mostly fox news which criticizes obama every step, and MSNBC which criticizes fox news at every step.

SoBaus

last time i watched the news it was nothing but obama ass kissing, and i mean every other news outlet besides fox, like newspapers, magazines, nothing but pro obama propaganda, of course thats why i stopped watching so its been a while.

dont like our admin, for the most part dont like their Parliament, and the only saving grace the UK has is the queen and only because she can drink anyone else at the party under the table.

Her Majesty's reign, through more than five decades, has, thusfar been defined by a lifetime of service -- service to the Realm -- and she has done so, unfalteringly and unwaveringly and with dignity and grace before everything else... Long Live the Queen! God Save the Queen!

Haha. It's funny, except for the fact that it wrong. He didn't give the queen an ipod with his speeches, but I guess you will believe anything you really want to.

Maybe you should put down the Kool-Aid and pick up a newspaper.

Per ABC News:

President and First Lady Obama gave Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II a video iPod with inscription, songs uploaded and accessories, plus a rare musical songbook signed by Richard Rodgers.

Uploaded onto the iPod:

  • Photos from the Queen's 2007 White House State Visit
  • Photos from the Queen's 2007 Jamestown, Va., Visit
  • Photos from the Queen's 2007 Richmond, Va., Visit
  • Video from the Queen's 1957 Jamestown Visit
  • Video from the Queen's 2007 Jamestown Visit
  • Video from the Queen's 2007 Richmond Visit
  • Photos from President Obama's Inauguration
  • Audio of then-state senator Obama's speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention, and
  • Audio of President Obama 2009 Inauguration Address

Reminds me of that statue of Churchill and FDR on a bench in London.

The UK needs to grow up and learn to stand on its own feet without America providing a safety mat. Our leaders are scared to speak out because of the 'special relationship'. Well guess what? Obama doesn't care for it, he treats the UK just the same as any other ally. Although the UK is a force in itself, Any Nuclear armed nation in the world can potentially win any battle so that arguement is now redundant in my opinion, but if you take this factor out of the equation....thats another story. I think that in maybe 20-30 years the USA won't be the only superpower and will defintely not have the most influence, i think the most influential countries will soon become India, Korea, Japan and China(In other words, Asia).
