In a shining step forward in diplomacy and peace, Iran's leaders have responded to President Obama's Nowruz (Persian New Year) video with a wonderful address:

"Have you released Iranian assets? Have you lifted oppressive sanctions? Have you given up mudslinging and making accusations against the great Iranian nation and its officials?" Khamenei said in a speech in the northeastern city of Mashhad. The crowd chanted "Death to America."

Mudslinging accusations against Iranian officials?! Surely he doth jest.

That region of the world continues to disappoint me.

I'd like to think we could just leave those people alone, let them do their own thing, but I genuinely dont think we can. They seem to be commited to making the rest of the world as miserable and backwards as they are.

Trying to improve foreign relations is all well and good, but the fact of the matter is that the goals of our two countries are to disparate to find any meaningful common ground. We can send as many nice video messages as we want, but Iran will keep giving us the finger as long as the U.S. is supporting Israel, disrupting Iran's control of the region, and opposing Iran's nuclear ambitions. I don't want the U.S. to cave on any of those issues, but it's naive of Obama to think that a kind word can override so many real areas of conflict. I hope he continues to try to improve relations around the world, but the cold hard truth is that countries like Russia and Iran have agendas that run counter to those of the United States, and there can't be good relations as long as that is the case.

Yeah I love it how everyone is surprised by this...:roll: Don't be naive, the supreme leader wants to stay in power and therefore he and his mullah buddies need to give the people a common enemy. Of course he would reject a peace offering, otherwise he wouldn't have an excuse for the high prices and lack of other things in Iran. One of the tennants of the Islamic Revolution was the rejection of everything American (aka the Great Devil). So don't be naive by thinking this is uncalled for, and most of all: Don't think this religious douchebag represents most Iranians.
