[QUOTE="BiancaDK"][QUOTE="JustPlainLucas"]Why not have an actual debate contest? Pick a topic, then people can present their sides of the arguments. Let it run its course for a while, and then have people vote on who they thought the best debater in that thread was. JodyR

This is awesome. ^ I just suspect people will vote on the person they like the most though, and mostly go by that criteria alone. JodyR: Waaiit-wait-wait, wait... WAIT. Are you saying that we might have to do something ourselves in order to make this work? *pounds the killswitch on this puppy*

mmmhmmmm. I dont know your favorite color! I don't know if you like wearing high heels. I don't know if you have a puppy or his name. :) Maybe we just need a questionnaire thread. Then, I'll delete or purge that thread. and you all have to remember what was said.

I like this idea better actually! That way you all have a chance to check into people's habits and such. Define your personality type (category based on a list, probably), favorite cookie, favorite car, favorite discussion threads, etc. Then I'll create a trivia once a month or something. This sounds like a winner already.

That does actually sound like fun. :3

As long as people aren't taking screenshots of the answers given in the questionnaire thread before it is purged ;o

I don't think drawing or art or sig is a good choice because not every poster can do it easily. You want to be able to have a contest where all users can enter without a clear disadvantage. I like the idea of writing or user submitted trivia because at least then everyone starts at the same level.

Just my thoughts.

MistressMinako
Yeah, but to some people writing poems/songs/etc might be something they feel they aren't good at as well. I'm fine with both writing/sig designing. I probably wouldn't enter the sig contests though. :P

Bwahaha, I still would vote your sig the best sig ever :P And who says drawing has to be good? What if it's supposed to be fun? I know I can't draw, but I still do. . . .

What if we had something like a "Lick of the week" for musicians of OT? Obviously this goes for any instrument known to man(including the triangle). I think it would be a lot of fun for everyone, including those that aren't musicians. Of coarse we could have a contest as well, but wouldn't be as fun IMO. :P

So, I have another idea.

What if you all made baseball style cards of each other? Just the front card... possibly using real face or avatars, which one we pick would have to have guidelines. Just as there are titles in baseball cards of what the player does, maybe there is one or two words that define who each of you are.

I was thinking to have this in stages.

phase 1 - Template contest : This would be the creative of them all making a type of border and such as seen on baseball or hockey cards (can you tell I used to collect hockey cards as a kid? LOL), where we can all use this template to add real pix and such. You could also have maybe the OTCars winners as the SPECIAL card with something shiny border or something like that.

phase 2 - Staff or OT forum posters consider which card template is best.

phase 3 - OT Forum Posters Card Workshop: Here is when we all get together and target who we want to make a card for (strictly based on the best template). Anyone who wants to edit the template to make a card for a OT poster can do so. We'd want to make a list of who needs a card and just work from there to get them all done. We could ask these people to display their cards in their blog and keep a collection of them maybe linked in the sticky thread. The only question is whether or not we want people to have a picture of them (even if it's just the back of their hair/a scenery that defines who they are/dog/cat/horse (LOL), or whatever to be a real picture and have their avatar somewhere on the card (based on the best template). We would also want to consider how big we want these cards. I am thinking the size of a Facebook picture (something like 100x? or 150x?). We would also need to establish what you already know as a nick name for each of the baseball style cards, such as Mr. Anti-troll or something cute and funky.

This might be an annual activity that occurs after OTcars each year. Let me know what you think! :)

------------------------------------------

As long as people aren't taking screenshots of the answers given in the questionnaire thread before it is purged ;o

BiancaDK

Ohh, see you are thinking like a community manager here. How can people exploit this feature or contest? :P Sure you aren't trying for my position? ;)

So, the idea would be fine to allow users to take notes. However, the wording and such won't be exactly the way users responded obviously. For instance, maybe the blue color that was asked in the WHORU survey might be associated to the color of a car? There are plenty of ways around minor exploits. Plus, if I was real smart I would also tie in OTcars responses in with the trivias.

The baseball card idea is a little old school. Some of the PGL (professional gamers league) players had cards made of them. It's a cyber sport old school idea that I think would rock in OT. Maybe we'll expand to other forums if it works well enough, but the idea that it's centered around OTcards makes it just that more special. So, maybe System Wars would be the only other forum with this idea since they also have an annual voting process like OTcars.

Don't want to do any file leeching of the images on other sites, so check out these webpages for an idea of what I mean.

Baseball card images on bapple2286 wordpress blog

There were also comic book collectible cards I used to collect.

List of images of the Spiderman collectible cards on spiderfan.org

Some ideas on the limited or rare edition cards (which would be fun for OTcars) normally were hologram (not easy for an image unless you have it animated which is too much work). Here is an example of a chrome style image though.

Yeah, I REALLY like this idea. I'm always making up little riffs and bridges in my head, and I'd love to go head to head with some other OTers to try to win :P Although, I don't have any way of recording. Would we be allowed to use FL Studio?

I guess it doesn't really matter, that baseball card thing has been all but decided.

How about a traditional writing competition? Over at the Writers Lounge, there are contests like that all the time. A little while ago, there was a poetry competition (in which I didn't participate, but... well, you know).

I would absolutely LOVE to see a script-writing competition. Done in actual script style; full-length, original or based on existing work (fiction or otherwise). But I'm probably the only screenwriting afficianado on all of GS, and most certainly the only one who would actually want to enter.

--

Another idea, which would be similar to to the OT Valentine contest, is that we pick an already existing song which best describes a different topic every week; ourselves, OT, a political situation, a war situation, etc, The rest of the participants would then judge each song.

--

Of course, there could be just a vague "create something which describes you" and doesn't say what to do. A picture, a song, lyrics, a story, poetry whatever the individual participants choose.

--

To whom it may concern, these are my ideas.

_IronManDude_

Those would be cool, but it would be too easy to cheat on the internet.

what if the trivia was somehow themed around other users in OT? I dunno', just throwing it out there. :3

The flaw there is i suspect the average OT user knows much more OT trivia than Jody does..

Alright, I'm all for IronManDude's first two propositions. Something creative is our best bet @ avoiding cheating but here's an entry anyways:

Fetching contest. There's a hidden message/image, Jody hides clues or whatever through the site and we must uncover it through a set of tips. Pretty classic. PM the answer and those who get it first obviously win.

No cheating there. Our only problem here would be ppl giving 'tips' away to their friends and that's just me putting it in a nice way ;D

That might be interesting but that might require an image with some artwork? Have any advice of artists that won't mind some traffic to their site from all of you swarming their website's bandwidth? :)

Hey, they get exposure and ad revenue, so what'll they care? It's not as if it'll be an effective DDoS or anything :P Also, I really like your trading card workshop idea. I like the idea of having one main theme, but divided into multiple areas so everyone can get involved. :)

By the way, the writing related contest would take a lot of effort for my end. The voting process might have to be popularity versus actual creative writing. Might we make a type of judge panel for these kinds of events? Like... judges that are good with art and those who are good with creative writing (english/literacture) and have you all vote for 3 judges that can help me with future little activities? Thoughts? :)

Also, I really like your trading card workshop idea. I like the idea of having one main theme, but divided into multiple areas so everyone can get involved. :)kamikaze_pigmy
Some websites can't handle us, believe me. :) But yeah, if we warned them maybe it would be good for their sites in general. I just need to either mirror the art or simply refer their webpage with the art.

Yes, the card idea needs to happen. This OT card deck idea would be great after the OTcards is over.

I just need to get a schedule lined up for OT forum activities. Maybe we'll mix it up!

The baseball cards idea sounds interesting, though an RPG-based card would probably be less restricted and would encourage the users to be more creative.

Example: picking a class, an element, a specialization, a backround (human, elf, etc).

Thats just me though, my idea is probably too nerdy.

I think a debate contest would be cool, seeing how many people like to argue. The admins pick a topic (abortion, gays in the military), then assign a side to each participant. They must argue their side convincingly for a group of judges from OT, maybe five max. Thought that would be better than letting the whole OT vote because it would just simply be a popularity contest. We could have brackets where winners debate against other winners till we get to the final two. The best debator wins a shiny debate emblem.

I would like to suggest a lyrics contest but without any predesignated theme like the previous contest.

The best debator wins a shiny debate emblem.Travo_basic

Well, some sort of debate competition would be the easiest game to make, considering people debate all the time already. :P

Agreed. I think that the participant's should be allowed to have some amount of time beforehand to learn about the upcoming debate topic, and then have a chance to gather sources, research, etc. It'd lead to more productive and informative debates, instead of just letting them go by what they knew beforehand. The judging should also take into account how well each debate is presented, and how professional each debater is. Even if one person's argument is clearly better, them presenting it in a rude or nasty way isn't what I would consider the best debater.

I would like to suggest a lyrics contest but without any predesignated theme like the previous contest.

Just lyrics about whatever we want.

Teenaged

We allowed that with the first GS lyrics contest and it took the judges days of finding the songs. We vowed never again to not have a core list. Some of those songs were foreign and not easy to follow during the judging process.

I second this idea. I'd like a deabting contest that was somewhat controlled and had a group of judges. Actually I'd like to judge. :P But anyways as I first said I go with Travos idea. :)

how about a scavenger hunt and people must go and find them and take a picture with it ,with either a note that has there username or them in it. Also there is no wrong answer for example the thing you must find can be a "black and white beatle" someone can post a pic of a volkswagon beatle that can be black and white (either both colors in one or two individual cars with one color each) or a black and white picture of a Beatle like Paul McCartny or any other of then as long as it makes sense and it meets the desired item the only way it can be wrong could is if the picture doesnt meet the item requirement also there will be judges that rank the pics from best lolz to average lolz which ranges the amount of points towards the pics and thats how points are keep

Might be pretty cool if we had to go out and take the pictures ourselves (with a piece of paper with our usernames in shot or something), don't know if that's what you were saying or not. Then the winner would be the person with the person who found the most out items from the list, possibly with a tie-break of funniest photo or something. I think that would be a lot of fun.

yeah for the first part but the winner would be in who got the most points and items and the funnier the photo is would determine how many points it would be.

That's a pretty good idea.

I do believe we actually had a scavenger hunt some time ago although it was strictly limited to the Gamespot site. There were hints and clues to find and then we had to find the hidden picture located somewhere in the vast space of Gamespotland. It was a nice idea although I must admit that I didn't get very far.

[QUOTE="Jandurin"][QUOTE="xTheExploited"]Costume competition. Submit images, etc. :PxTheExploited
haha, i actually like that

Yeah but I just found a flaw in my idea, for those of us who still live with our parents. Parents: "Ahem, honey... what are you doing" Us: "Online costume competition on a video game website's forum. :|" haha.

Yeah but me It would be with anger as I say it
