Ok....so im in ninth grade, and tomorrow i have to give a huge powerpoint presentation on uranium mining and its advantages and disadvantages in front of about 150 people who pretty much all of them have a strict opinion on politics and this stuff. Me? I hardly know anything about it, and i have to stand up on a stage in a suit and tell these people about it with a 10 slide powerpoint and about a week's worth of knowledge of googling and looking over uranium-235 basics.

first of all, i dont do suits. im the guy at school with long hair that wears a metal t shirt and camos to school everyday.

next, my powerpoint makes no sense to me at all.

also, i am horrible at public speaking. when i get up there, it get all jittery, studder on every other word, and move around a lot.

also, i have a really deep voice and i speak rather quietly, so im gonna have to basically scream to at least get a good grade.

and, just especially for me, since im a great friend of the teacher's (who is only about 20....and HOTTTT) she is getting THE FREAKING NEWSPAPER to come and do a report about our powerpoints and presentations. They are going to put my pictures in the paper, and i dont know much at all about this topic.....

does anyone have any good experience with this at all? cause im all ready **** my pants, and the presentation its about 16 hours away. i am counting the minutes.

pleasepleaseplease help meh

Go and give your presentation to someone in your family. Then ask them for pointers on how you could have improved anything (the visuals, your organization of the information, your presentation skills, etc) and just keep doing that with your family until you are more confident.

Before you go on constantly go over what you want to say and don't think about the crowd. When you go on just stare into nothingness and give your presentation. Switch slides, look up toward the audience but continue staring into nothingness.

Speak loudly and coherently. You heard of the saying that people talk loud to seem smart? Well it works when doing presentations. Make it look like you know what you're talking about, even if you don't.

I'm a debater, and public speaker. I also do suits ;) Well, if you aren't comfortable looking people in the eyes, don't. Look at the area around their eyes, their foreheads,glasses,eyebrows... w/e Also, speak loudly and clearly, be aware of it. If you are going to studder, or um or uh or or or or or or ... take a pause, gather yourself, and continue your presentation. The rest is all natural my friend. Good luck.

how 'bout you research and do the dang project?!!

get off the forums, research uranium-235, and report about it.

a poor job is better than a crappy job. at least if you try to explain it, you should get some points for effort.

uranium-235 is an isotope of uranium which happens to have 92 protons. so if it has 92 protons, and the uranium you're doing your project on is 235, that means:

????

... that uranium-235 has 143 neutrons. 235 minus 92 equals 143, pretty simple concept.

it's also dangerously radioactive. start with that and see if you can't come up with something.

Exactly, just relax theres nothing to worry about, its just a presentation. Plus the fact that you get to have a powerpoint, that makes it so much easier for you. Knowing what you are talking about would be a good idea.

In high school I found that if you sound/act like you know what you are talking about and present it with a sense of purpose you will succeed. Seems that high school teachers don't know much about specific topics, except my chem teacher in 10th grade who was a Phd Prof. from yale...... But, if all else fails, just sound like u know what ur saying....

that dosent matter during the presentation, that only affects your mark later when the teacher marks for content. during the presentation you could say complete **** and the teacher wouldnt be any wiser. also

Rehearse your speach repeatedly in your bedroom -- this should give you natural rhythm and clarity when you actually do your speech. Good luck, I've been in a similar position before, and I empathise with you. Also, why 150 people -- should you just be doing in front of your class?

Well, why are you doing the power point?

Is it because you want to get a good grade? or you just doing it because of your parents? why?

Think about it... If it's for your parents, then you are going to be nervous. If you want to do it, you shouldn't be nervous at all.

That's very unfair for her to do that. Another thing, I can guarantee that you care more about how you do in that presentation 100s times more then anybody else does; humans have this annoying habit of thinking the world revolves around them. If you screw up a teeny bit, the only person that will probably are is you. No matter how you do, just about everybody listening will probably forget the speech within 30 minutes.

I would recommend that you do dress nicely as it's in front of a lot of people. One of my good friends is a guy with long hair--when he has to give presentations he always pulls his hair back in a low ponytail. It can look quite professional and is probably your best option. Also, there's no need to get incredibly technical--that will just bore your audience. That should take some of the pressure off you. When you're doing your research, try to find things on the topic that interest you. Good places to start would be how it was discovered or what it's used for, not the really technical scientific fomulas.

[QUOTE="MetalGear_Ninty"] Another thing, I can guarantee that you care more about how you do in that presentation 100s times more then anybody else does; humans have this annoying habit of thinking the world revolves around them. If you screw up a teeny bit, the only person that will probably are is you. No matter how you do, just about everybody listening will probably forget the speech within 30 minutes.

This is very very very very true. We worry so much about what other people think about us and we worry about minor gaffes we make, but think about it--do you hold long lasting grudges against your classmates who stumble over a few words. Hopefully the answer is absolutely not. :P You'll be fine I'm sure. :)

Why would you wear camos to school? Are you expecting war to break out? :PNinja-Hippo
hey, you just gave me the best idea.....get some kamikazies to attack during my presentation!! War should get me off the hook haha :D:D haha but i wear camos because i hate seeing the same kids wear the same old khaki shorts and a polo, or jean shorts......i absolutely hate mainstream, i love to be different. but not when it comes to powerpoints ahah....
