God himself would have to come down, prove that he is in fact "God" (by some sort of miracle impossible to achieve in this realm) and demand that I worship him or face eternal damnation.

I could believe that God exists if he were to prove it, but for me to "turn" and become a Christian, he would have to demand worship and threaten punishment for me not to go along with worship... because not only do I not agree with many Christian morals (making it hard for me to even begin thinking of myself as "Christian"), but do not wish to bow to anything or anyone. Not even God. For if he were truly "God," he wouldn't demand worship, or even expect it.

~~~
However... it is technically impossible by definition for a "supernatural" being such as God to be "proven" in this universe empirically. You must merely "accept" that God exists based on faith, and cannot prove to anyone besides yourself that he exists. So don't worry about trying to convert other people... it won't work as long as God remains supernatural and personal.
God appearing before me would be evidence enough.
Questions I want to be answered as well...
I wanna know why Athiests say people thrust religion down your throat when they do the same thing with Athiesm and even more heavily.
Personally I'm still struggling with the supernatural part, but as for God being a personal experience I definitely agree. And on that ground I have no problem having "faith" that God exist. And by having "faith" that God does exist, I am not really looking for any hard evident to prove his existence. Since I believe my relationship with him is personal I see no need to convince others of his existence.
It makes sense in my head, but I think I might have a bit of a circular logic going on here...
If I saw an undeniable miracle.
cousin_eddy
That sums it up in a nutshell if you ask me.
yea, same here
and I Dont mean "Oh, you cleaned up and got off drugs, its a MIRACLE!" nope, that is solely the cause of a human there.
I mean a burning bush, water to wine, loaves and fishes...something undeniable, as Spiders said
I think a coherent definition of "god" is required before I could give an answer to that question.
Frattracide
This. Also, to the TC: I don't disbelieve on purely empirical grounds. Whenever I use inductive reasoning, I never arrive at the conclusion that anything resembling the theistic God must exist - perhaps a cosmological God, but not a personal one.
I wanna know why Athiests say people thrust religion down your throat when they do the same thing with Athiesm and even more heavily.
dunderri
atheists are constantly on the defensive, in case you have not noticed.
We never thrust non-religion down people's throats without cause. To be completely frank, the only threads on here concerning atheism come from religious folks wanting to bash us (admittedly, since Crushmaster's banning, these have gone down) or curious people. I've yet to see a thread saying " 'convert' to Atheism!"
But rarely do you see an atheist starting an argument. Most atheists I know, both on here and in real life, dont really mind if people are religious. Hell, with 80+% of the world believing in God, we kinda have to get used to it.
Those particular and usually younger atheists are resentful of their upbringing and want to proselytize. I wouldn't say it's done more heavily, though.
I completely understand that the reason why you do not believe in a God is because there is a lack of empirical evidence.
What kind of evidence, however, do you want? What are you looking for? What kind of proof do you need? What kind of evidence would be required for you to turn and believe in a God?
I have been trying to come up with something that, if existed, would prove the existence of God. No matter what I come up with, it seems to me that it could just be whisked away and labeled as something else anyway. Perhaps there could be an enormous guiding hand in the sky that could shape the world and constantly echo, "I am God and I am real. Believe in me for I can lift this dog and turn it into a cat."
God should reveal himself to the modern world and show us beyond a reasonable doubt that he actually is God. Anything short of that and I will only recognize that God's existence is possible or likely (depending on the circumstantial evidence out there).
Well if there was a god why all the suffering? One answer might be because maybe its impossible to make ever human happy because its possible humans do not want to be happy all the time. So denying god the supposed creator would damn the person to hell who will be tortured for all eternity. That doesnt sound like unconditional love to me. Why would Satan torture the people who deny god if satan itself denies God's law? Have you ever read the Bible from page 1 to the end; its a very good story but thats all it is an entertaining story with love,hate,death,magic,etc. So what is the reason for why the old Greek religion is nothing but a myth there is nothing proving that Zeus and the world of Gods do not exist and there is nothing proving that they do exist. So to say that a God exists and the reason why God exists is because you have faith then you should also agree with any person who believes in either one creator or many because they hold the same reason why you believe. So because you believe in a God I do not think any different of you than a person who didnt believe in God and I think this is the way it should be.
