Could you imagine how horrible unemployment would be if this happened though Tons of jobs just wouldn't exist without the internet To be fair the loss of the internet would also create lots of jobs like messenger jobs or jobs creating personalized storage mediums or even entertainment jobs. That's actually a good point. It would create a giant clusterf*ck in the job market though.[QUOTE="JML897"][QUOTE="Pirate700"]
I think this question also depends on if the internet ceases to exist for everyone for a year. I would think it's a lot easier to live without it if everyone has has to also.

I think I'm analyzing this dumb hypothetical situation too much

Could be useful in case of an alien invasion. If I did I'd probably actually be able to get something done. Not sure if I even remember the time before not having a computer, since started using them 2000-2001 I think or maybe 1999-98 I'm not sure. And if I did disappear off the internet don't think anyone would notice either.
The internet is just a tool to me. It doesn't run my life. Living without internet will merely be an inconvenience, not a return to the Stone Age. I'd survive without it. Meteorology existed long before there was internet. My work would survive without it....in fact as one of the few who have experience prior to the internet taking over, my value might even go up a bit.
Sure I could if the reward was good enough. I did it for many years when I was a kid and survived quite well.
I'm an IT guy who wants to help grow the internet because I truly believe it has the potential to help the world in many many ways.
That being said I could in fact force myself to go without the internet for a year. It would take some planning though, the internet runs in the background of an incredibly large amount of things. For instance I would always have to have cash on hand to avoid accessing the internet by swiping my debit card.
I could if I had to. Â I'm not big into social media but it's the information availablility that I'd miss.
Yes, I remember a time where there was no internet. In the early 90s it was largely unheard of by everyone and it really did come out of no where.Jd1680a
Videos like this are great
(I just noticed, the best part of that video is when they say a guy is from Oslo and they show a Swedish flag on the screen...probably because no wikipedia)
[QUOTE="Pirate700"]Could you imagine how horrible unemployment would be if this happened though Tons of jobs just wouldn't exist without the internet so we shouldn't make the internet pay taxes. after all, it's a job creator. we must bow and worship at it's mighty feet.I think this question also depends on if the internet ceases to exist for everyone for a year. Right now? No. I need the internet for college.
Â
When I'm out of college? No. I'd probably last a day.
No offense, but if you're relying on facebook to keep in touch with your immediate family and girlfriend, something is seriously wrong. Lol wut? You know that's a main feature of facebook?[QUOTE="General_X"]Not currently as my job is heavily based on the internet. In my spare time? Maybe, but not having access to email and Facebook to keep in touch with my parents/girlfriend would be incredibly hard.Pirate700
I've done it before when my laptop crapped out on me and I had no money to buy a new one. Not that hard, but I did get bored quite a bit.
I would have gained a ton of experience by then in the real world, be more social interactive, and finally accomplish something for once.
