So I'm bored and decide to look up stuff about internet in other countries. I knew that South Korea and Japan lead the world in high speed internet, but DANG!
I want what South Korea's got! Maybe I should just move in with my mom's family over there. Internet in South KoreaWikipedia (opens in new window)
"In January 2006, it became the first country to achieve over 50% broadband penetration per capita."
"By 2005, it was the first country to complete the conversion from dial-up to broadband."
"It also has the cheapest, fastest broadband on the planet. Now there are experiments with speeds of 1 Gigabit per second. Additionally, in 2005 96.8% of South Korean mobiles had internet access."
"As of 2009, most apartments and houses are able to subscribe 100 mbps internet connection for less than $50."
Here in the US some people still use Dial-Up or have no internet at all, but you have to live in a rural area for that.
On the other hand, Japan's ISPs can't keep up with consumer demand. Internet in Japan Wikipedia (opens in new window)
"The unique problem facing Japan's broadband situation is due to the popularity of high-speed FTTH. Operators struggle to maintain enough bandwidth to allow maximum usage of the service by customers. Even the largest operators have capacities in the region of tens of gigabits while customers with gigabit FTTH services (or higher) may number in the thousands. This problem is further compounded by limits caused by internal router bandwidth."
