At first I didn't like it. I prefered the simplicity of Chrome, with it's bookmarks toolbar and smooth and simple naviagation. I didn't like Opera because I felt it had a lot of features that I didn't like, or were overcomplicated. As time went on and I used more and more bookmarks, you begin to see that Chrome doesn't handle them well and fast. Since most people use widescreens and webpages are quite the opposite format, I can use Opera to have a large part of the side of the screen dedicated to bookmarks which I have on all the time, all of which I can clearly see their full content.. That means no extra clicks or navigating, tons of bookmarks are right there on the side and it doesn't affect the tall format webpages. It isn't cut off like in Chrome.

It also has cool stuff like mouse gestures. To open up a new tab you right click on a link and move the mouse down which is really fast and slick. Scrolling seems smoother too. All and all more customization options which I'm finding I need. Also you can stack tabs together for better organization, where in Chrome the bar usually fills up for me. The only downside is that it does not have spell check, although that it not too much of a concern for me. So basically, if you find Chrome is slowing you down if you have a lot of bookmarks, you should check out Opera.

If you go to menu> appearance> buttons, does anything work for you? Can you change anything? Seems like I can't click on anything or change anything. I have the latest version. EDIT: I'm actually not sure if it's supposed to do anything, might be something else.

I can see the buttons but when I click on them nothing happens, so I guess you can't change it from there. I think to customize your buttons you might have to make your own skin or something? I'm not sure, I've never really dabbled around with customizing appearances beyond choosing skins/themes =P

Well you're running Vista. IE always crashes on my Vista machine. Even though I'm using Firefox 4, I haven't had a single problem so far with IE9 on Windows 7. Actually, IE9 boots up almost twice as fast as Firefox 4 in my case.

I hope you realize WIndows 7 is basically Vista with kernel tweaks, and a new task bar right, oh and lower memory usage?

Have you seen any single set of software work on 7 but not Vista? The only ones I can think of have to do with the boot section, on Windows 7 it is in its own partition.

I've been messing with Opera now for quite some time. I got all my bookmarks from Chrome and I'm really surprised at how far you take it. I finally not frustrated with all of my bookmarks. I have a toolbar with images only of my favourites sites which is a lot more compact than Chrome. Then I have a panel with info on sites that I go through and bookmark / delete really fast so there's only one click to get what I want which is great.. Going back and forth with mouse gestures is pretty cool as well. Also, it seems spell check is working now! It's perfect! Chrome in comparison is gimped.. you can't do enough with it.

And to the guy talking about the IE beta I hated it for a very fundamental reason. I didn't even try it out too much because of how clumsy the tabbing feels. Dragging them around feels clunky and opening a new tab with the middle mouse button is delayed...

Well we all have different tastes and different things we notice and dislike. It's just important that you find something that works for you and stick with it. I kind of feel that Opera's a bit faster than Chrome although that might be placebo.

I've used Opera as well but Chrome just feels a lot faster than the rest of the browsers out there. So i'm sticking with Chrome due to it's efficient speed, also using the addon Speed Dial helps sort my bookmarks with images and ease of use.

I've been using Opera for quite a while and i think is great, however, i also think is a little bit slower than what it claims, i still think Mozilla is the way to go, Chrome is just a no no for me.

it has an adblock but you have to do it manually. But its not as good as the one for Firefox though which still trumps all.

Yeah, I downloaded it and spent like 20 minutes trying to figure out how to get it to work before I just said "why bother?" and went back to Firefox.

You have several options with regards to advertisement blocking although none are as refined as AdBlock Plus for Firefox in my opinion. Features like NoScript come standard in Opera, though.

ABP gives Firefox such a huge competitive edge that I don't think I could ever give a different browser a shot if it didn't have something comparable. It's amazing to be able to set up a subscription and effortlessly never see ads anymore.

I didn't have any, but I downloaded all those ones and they're quite nice. One of them allows me to click on a tab by going to the maximum height with the pointer- something I couldn't do before. I wish there was an option for that with any skin. Anyway, the only problem I'm using with Opera is how when you use clickable components fast it tries to open up a drop down menu which can get annoying, and I can't open websites in a new tab using a gesture from my bookmarks toolbar. Other than that though it's been pretty good.

I don't use mouse gestures in any browser so I can't really help you with that one. Regarding the clickable components, can you give an example? Double clicking on a word that isn't a link will have that effect, unless I am misunderstanding something here.

i know im sounding like a broken record but for me, I notice not much, if any difference and I have 7+ addons installed for firefox (FF4). The only noticeable difference I see is on linux, Chrome starts up in 3 seconds, while Firefox takes 6-7. After that, the browsing is the same.

I would be more open to using it if it had a better Xmarks extension and an extension similar to "paste email" from firefox.
