Who needs a normal family environment to grow up in anyway?FalcoLX
Not me, and millions of other people like me with single parents.
Kid's need love, and if you're willing and able to give it to them, I'd say you're in a very good position to raise one.

I have a problem with that. It depends on the culture.
Agree to disagree.
This is bothering me soooooooooooooooooooooooo much.
It isn't whether THEY CAN marry or not it's whether it get's recognized by the Goverment so yes the government has a say, any religion is a religion but that doesn't mean the government won't tax them (until they fit the bill so to say).
SO yes the government defines it as of now they put the question out there it was voted down get over it already sooner or l8er it will get around is it really such a big deal if you can't get married?

What the hell did you just say?:|
I agree.
If marriage is banned, maybe my gf won't keep asking me about it.

I am glad you agree.

I'm glad I'm not the only person who couldn't peice that one together.
Agreed. Marriage is a christian belief that has been infused into American culture, but it is still a ritual nonetheless, and has no influence over government institutions, and their policies.Marriages shouldn't be legal or illegal.Â
It shouldn't be a matter for the state to rule over.

Wouldn't straight, religious couples choose both?
K well lets try this again
Say there's some wackjob who gets together 15 people and says this is my religion, while it IS a religion it's not recognzed under the government.
Same things with homosexuals while they can have a union it's not recognized by the government as marriage.
Better?
So if it doesn't benefit you, then why deny people happiness?
As far as same sex marriages being 'rarely working', I do remember that heterosexual marriages aren't doing very well either...sooo ignorance & voting for the wrong reason much? yes I believe so.
Don't half of straight couples end up getting divorced? AnnoyedDragon
Â
yeah, marriages really dont work out most the time. I think i've heard the statistic that over half of marriages end in divorce. and how many people do you know have been married more than 1 or 2 times? I know a good # of people that have been divorced at least once. but really ,it has nothing to do with being straight or gay I'm sure homosexuals dont have any better or worse of a time staying with somebody. Marriage is difficult no matter what.
It didnt shock me, but it sorta irritated me that 3 states (Arizona, California, and Florida) passed propositions that made amendments to their state constitutions to basically ban gay marriage. The supporters of these propositions had absolutely no data to support their propositions. They said stuff like "A family should be a man and a woman." But in reality they just hate homosexuals, but are affraid to admit it.  Personally it doesnt matter to me who gets married. If a man marries another man or 2 women get married, it will have NO impact on my life. I just think that to just say they shouldnt be able to get married is just hatefull in my opinion. why should governments give fewer rights to homosexuals? Â
Â
and btw, i can only speak for the usa, I'm sure other countries are different. someday the usa will probably wake up and not bash on gay people so much. for the most part i blame the religious extremists that have influence on the government. they think that gay people go to hell. so sad........

But at least it's not immoral. ;)

LOL. exactly.  the statements that being gay is wrong or not natural has NOWHERE in law making. Thats an opinion, laws shouldnt be based on somebody's hate towards another's sexual orientation. immoral is definately the word for this thread.

Yes it is. In my opinion it is.
Actually i dont' think the state should recognize any marriage at all. They should tax us and contact us as individuals only.

Great idea.

How does any other marriage benefit you?

The problem with that is that other countries won't recognize marriage as well which will take away privileges if they are in another country. See this for more info.
Just curious: if there was a choice between a legal union with no religious status and a religious marriage with no legal status, how many people would choose the 2nd form over the 1st?jimmyjammer69I would. Course that would never happen.

Where's the relevance? If gay marriage was legalized, the amount of marriages ending in divorce would probably go up anyway.Â

I don't know but way more than half of them report being unhappy while married. :?
If people wanna marry, let those people marry. :|
If they want to divorce later on, then oh well, they divorce...

Where did you get that illogical idea from? Your ass, right? And where's the relevance to that anyway?
The state spends a lot of money on couples who are married by giving them benefits and tax breaks. Therefore it is completely up to the state to define who is "married".Marriages shouldn't be legal or illegal.Â
It shouldn't be a matter for the state to rule over.
