Orson scott card, writer of the enders games series, apparently seems to hate J.K Rowling. I actually agree with many of what he says in the article, though some insults toward her are a bit harsh. What do you guys think?

Harry Potter is basically an encylopedia of fantasy cliches, and 'references' to other fantasy fiction.

That read made my night a little more interesting. Anyways, he did seem a little bit harsh, but I do agree with the guy.

Anyone who writes something as popular as JK Rowling will get a crapload of jealous authors at their throat.

So, I'm not surprised by his comments.

There's other things to be jealous of, the media popularity, the way people see her, etc etc.

I'm not sure, just my thoughts.

I've never read any of Card's work but I did read the second Harry Potter novel (The Chamber of Secrets). I was around 10 or 11 and even then I thought it was cliched and boring. I think Rowling should use that money to buy an imagination

Go figure.

I doubt that he is jealous because he has money and a hardcore following (I'm part of it) and on top of that he actually gets some respect from the literary community.

Card just pointed out what alot of people have been thinking.

Enders Game > Harry Potter. Period. That was my favorite read in highschool English. I need to get myself a personal copy of the whole series, so far i've only read the first book of Endars Game. That alone was awesome. Anyone know if the following books are even better or on par with the first?

Enders Game > Harry Potter. Period. That was my favorite read in highschool English. I need to get myself a personal copy of the whole series, so far i've only read the first book of Endars Game. That alone was awesome. Anyone know if the following books are even better or on par with the first?Tolwan

well, there are alot so im gonna list em real quick:

Enders Game - Amazing book and beginning of a great series!

Speaker For the Dead - Also a great book, but slower than Enders game, and a lot of portuguese words that may annoy u unless u understand the language (which i luckily do :D) Also this book deals with Ender's mental state after what he did in Ender's Game and it also quickly touches on the political situation on earth after the events of Ender's Game. Very philosophical.

Xenocide - Awesome book, this one starts to head back to the more Sci-fi roots of Enders game. Introduction of one of my favorite Ender's saga "characters." You'll find out why the next book is called "Children of the Mind" at the end of this book.

Children of the Mind - oh man! So much happens in this book. The title has great meaning and you'll love it, this is the final book in the Ender Saga! MUST READ!!!

Ender's Shadow - This is Ender's Game but from Bean's perspective. Great read! I used to hate Bean because he was the only one to be smarter than Ender, but this book explains why and explores his troubled past...trust me, you'll love him after this book! Oh yeah and we get to see more of Achilles!

Shadow of the Hegemon - So what happened next? Well, without spoiling much Ender leaves earth after Ender's game and this series (The Shadow Series) talks about bean's adventures and what happens on earth after ender's departure. And we get to learn more about Val but mostly we get to know Peter as a 3D character, unlike Ender remembers him. Plus it deals with the question "What do you do when the greatest military minds are divided by nations?"

Shadow Puppets - This one is very political, much more than the others but its still very good, and it marks a turning point for the Shadow Saga...you'll see.

Shadow of the Giant - Heartbreaking entry in the Shadow Saga. Very touching but also the best book in the saga plus look out for the reference to a major character in the Ender Saga! And look out for a another Ender/Shadow Saga cross story moment that happens between Ender and Peter!

Shadows in Flight - Im assuming it takes place after the events of Shadow of the Giant. I really want to know what happens, this book isnt out yet, but im pretty sure this would be the final book in the Shadow Saga.

First Meetings - Ender, Peter and Valentine are so smart...but where does this intelligence come from? From Smart Parents of course! This gives us sum insight on how Ender's parent grew up, and how they met and how the "Ender Saga" even came to be.

Rowling has been driven INSANE. He raises good points, more specifically why she decided to go after the lexicon author when her series became complete. Rowling claims that writing those books saved her sanity, now what happens when all is said and done? Remember when she claimed the books were like her children on the court stand? She's literally being driven insane, the more pen she puts on paper, the crazier she gets.

What else does she have after the harry potter series anyway? It seems she is getting desperate for some kind of attention.

What a wonderful little world we live in where authors insult other authors and write their own books just to get even with those authors, rather than writing books people enjoy.

They started as childrens books, but she said she wasnt going to stick with that the entire series, even if people wanted her to. She considered the later ones to be more 'grown up'.

Ender's Game = awesome first book, not sure bout the others

Harry= Awesome first few books, loses it towards the end, but some good parts.

Both writers are great. They are talented, and people read their books. Plus JK is more popular than OSC, so its easy to pick on someone more renown than you. :P I dont want to watch it right now though.

Harry Potter is a cliched series, however JK has accomplished something Card could only dream about. She introduced a whole new generation of children into fantacy fiction books, drew a crowd so deep into her fantacy world of wizards and, in essance, has created a whole culture surrounding her books.

JK Wins.

Ender's Game is original, has the better storyline, has better characters, has better writing, the books aren't 3/4 adjectives, and the fans aren't mostly teenagers/children.

Card wins. :P

There's no contest here, Card wins hands down.

Card's books have all been a breath of fresh air, very interesting and original. Compared to Harry Potter, I'd say they were also written better, or at least at a higher level. Harry Potter was charming, but I wasn't able to get past book 4.
