Wow Hurt locker wins 6 oscars , Avatars gets screwed..

That's good. Avatar was an average film besides the shiny graphics. But I think District 9 deserves to be the winner.
Good. Avatar was mediocre. Would've preferred to see Up in The Air or Inglourious Basterds win, though.super_mario_128
wow before today I had heard nothing bad about avatar now Im hearing Average???Or the Voters realized Avatar was an average movie at best.

wow before today I had heard nothing bad about avatar now Im hearing Average???People got too caught up in the visuals at first. Avatar is one of those movies that can blow you away at first and as time goes by you like the movie less and less. I haven't heard anything good about it in a while now.Or the Voters realized Avatar was an average movie at best.

i liked how they seated james cameron right behind his ex-wife kathryn bigelow and then she owned him by winning best director and best picture haha.
Avatar is that realistic graphical game with poor controls and bad gameplay. Fuhgeddaboudittalso see- rogue ops-

Except many top critics like Ebert gave the movie 4 out of 4 stars.. If it were really mediocre it wouldn't get rated so high, it would get rated.. YOU KNOW.. MEDIOCRE :|
Did anyone else feel a little bad for James Cameron though? He/Avatar was the butt of jokes the whole night. I get that comparing to the other nominations, I wouldn't put Avatar in the same caliber and would have hated for it to win, but at the same time, I will not fail to recognize the technological achievements he's done for the industry.Sajedene
Not really Avatar won two to three awards there.. And swept the Golden Globe.
Avatar was very cliché, but I enjoyed the movie, which is what counts. Come on, you can't have a boring time watching Avatar for the first time..

To be perfeclty honest what epic out there isn't cliche? Star Wars and Lord of the Rings were designed with these archtypes/cliches in mind when they were made for crying out loud.

If he felt bad he could always go home and take a swim in his giant pool of money. Personally I thought it was kind of awesome tosee him lose to his ex wife.
I had 0% interest in seeing avatar when I first seen the previews and I had 0% interest in seeing it after the, "oh mah gawd avatar is theh greatest movie that ever existed" crap. blue elf dudes wtf?
The right film won, but I wouldn't say it screwed over Avatar. That seemed to be more of a hype generated by people who hated the film instead of people who actually appreciate film. Avatar was't the best but it deserves it accolades whatever they may be. If any, the film which THL screwed was Up in the Air.
A film that barely anyone has seen wins it all...
Sides
If you mean in the theaters then true, but since it's ben out on dvd and blu-Ray it's been seen by many. Maybe not just you, but I know it's one of the top rents on Netflix.
Avatar received the awards it should have, in the technical department. The Hurt Locker deserves every bit of it's Best Picture award.

For some what you just said don't register since it wasn't from the last 100 years.

Well I can't help it if people are uneducated, or feel like they know what they are talking about when they really don't in this matter.
My heart was racing when it got to Best Director/Best Picture. I was going to be so mad if Avatar won and then all my Avatard friends would blow up my phone with texts. But Avatar got the awards it deserved, in the technical categories. How much it cost and how long it took to make should not factor into ANYTHING...hell I bet Titanic wouldn't have done as well without Leo/Winslett. Which is what Avatar was really missing (other than its Pocahontas/Ferngully story) was some strong acting.

Wait youre claiming that Star Wars and LOTR are cliche because they were inspired (according to you) by norse/greek mythology?
You're trying to be literal in a matter that cant be logically measured, how do you possibly not know this, beats me.
Then again, i cant help if people are uneducated.

.. Uhh I hate to break it to you but the main THEMES to Star Wars and LOTR has been used back into norse and greek mythology.. This alone makes it cliche and overused.. If you don't understand this I can't help you, all epics follow a one of a dozen archtypes.. Archtypes that have been created hundreds if not thousands of years ago..

True and he won the award at the Golden Globes over The Hurt Locker.

I'm with Roger Ebert and Empire on Avatar. I thought the film was terrific. The plot was simple, but so was Zombieland and Hangover, which I loved. But that aside, I felt Inglourious Basterds, District 9 or Up should've taken home the gold.

Yeah I felt District 9 would have been a great pick due to how unique it protrayed it self.. Inoglorious Basterds I just did not find very enjoyable.. Most of the dialogue was extremely ponderous, the plot was quite silly, and the entire bar seen was a huge wtf moment for me.. It felt like it last 30 minutes long, it had nothing to do with the plot, and it did not discuss metaphorically or what not any kind of political sicence critiques or other such things..

IB is definitely a movie that will give different impressions. I can see how it can be too nonsensical at times for some. And the bar scene was a bit too long, to be honest. But it's tough to not like Landa. :DThat's a bingo!

Well, I can't imagine he thought he was making a timeless, Oscar-caliber classic (though after winning for fluffy, fluffy Titanic, maybe he did). I'd expect the cash helps take the sting out of it, unless he still has to pay alimony ;) That would just be bitter
