I'm somewhat a pacifist. I refuse to get involved in violence and what not in reality (like someone punches me, I won't punch back) but it doesn't bother me when I play video games that have violence/war in them.
What about you, OT?

I have a family. I'll kill if I have to if someone threatens them.

Huh. I never thought of it from that perspective. I suppose it would be logical in those circumstances...I'm somewhat a pacifist. It doesn't bug you because you know it's fake. Studies have shown that for the most part partaking in violent video games doesn't make people more violent. In fact it may be a healthy way to let off some steam. Hard day at work? Flashbang a room and kill all the hostage takers. Had an episode of road rage directed at you on the way home and still can't get over it? Headshot zombie after zombie to take the edge off. Wife naggin you about your honey-do list? Put it off even longer and save the world by blowing it up!!!
Just make sure you play uplifting games, too. Keep it balanced.
Oh and to contribute, I will defend myself, but I don't see the point of constantly starting crap with people. That's a good way to get a knife in the ribs and shorten your life.

That's a good point. I never believed all that crap about how violent video games influence people to become more violent.I'm not, but it seems everytime im about to get in a fight theres always someone there to stop me. I go hulk and turn green you know. But nope theres always someone saying "It's not worth it!" and that ticks me off.

Really? This article says that "much of the attention to video game research has been negative, focusing on potential harm related to addiction, aggression and lowered school performance..."
If so many researches claim the same thing, we can't just shrug it off like it's nothing.
I don't believe so.

This situation has legitimately happened to you? Like, you'vebeen attacked by someone intent on either hurting you or taking something valuable from you?
Not by choice, only by laziness.Big_Bad_Sadexactly the same. sometimes i want to act, but in the end i just cant be bothered
I'm the opposite, life is too short to be holding onto anger and most people learn how to act better when corporal punishment is involved.
I don't know the answer, so sum it up for me OT. Like you TC, I don't punch back when someone punches me. And I refuse to be involved in some fights or brawls, but I just can't control it if I'm really pissed off or if it involves my loved one/s. So, am I a pacifist?
Absolutely. I have never been in a fight, and I don't plan to engage in one.

but...but...mods have hammers in their hands.:P
A pacifist would have to use a Nerf hammer.:P:lol:
I don't believe so.

Not necessarily, but there have been instances where someone has intentionally hurt me. It wasn't like a full all out "attack" however.I collect Soviet firearms as a hobby. If someone breaks into my home and threatens me or my family, they WILL get a bullet put into you. If I get punched in the face, I WILL punch back. My temper is short and my tolerance for hostile-intent towards me or people I care about is absolutely nonexistent. So...no, I'm not one.
No....while I won't go picking a fight.....if you threaten me or my family prepare to get your ass handed to you...Omni-Slash

I'm more of a passive aggressive. Push my buttons and I'll backlash in a very passive way, I'm patient and I know what bugs people without being violent, continue to push my buttons and I become less passive and more aggressive.
I don't believe that any living thing can be a perfect pacifist. When push comes to shove and your very life is on the line you'll be surprised with what you'll do to continue living.
To live a passive lifestyIe is one thing, but to believe that there is not a single situation in which you could benefit from violence is essentially denying yourself of a full range of emotion.
I don't deny myself from anything.
No, I'm not a damn pacifist. If someone attacks my country, I say blow 'em to hell. And if someone attacks my mom, I'm gonna kick their ass.
