Crazy how much Rubio's debate stumble hurt him.
Did you watch it? God, it was horrifying.
I find it amazing that his, "repeating empty talking points" gaffe was so blatant that it became the story of the day instead of the fact that that he was accusing the president of purposely tanking the US.
@Jacanuk: You have been force fed wrong information and propaganda concerning socialism. Fed to you by the rich and powerful who are scared to death of it. Socialism is based on the idea that we should use the vast resources of society to meet people’s needs. What about that is so offensive? No one wants to take away your middle class lifestyle. They just want to stop the insane greed at the top and feed and shelter the homeless and give the average worker a decent income. I don't care what those who claimed to be socialists in the past have done, this is what it actually means.
My main concern with socialism is that the government gets more control to "get these things done". I put that in quotes because the government very often does not do what it says it will, or at least not appropriately or efficiently. I don't trust the government. They blow money like it's nothing and commit shady practices. Corporations do these things too, but they're more accountable than the government, at least the ones not on wall street are. I like Bernie, he's really the only likable candidate in the running, but I'm not sure socialism would be a good fit for America where so many people are already lazy as hell living off the government.
@Toxic-Seahorse: These lazy people living off the government. Do you know what kind of living that really is. I live in a major city and know people living on welfare. It's not pretty. That's a lie the right tells you. If you really believe it give it a try and see how you feel about it. No one would choose this life if they had an alternative. The fact is that a minimum wage job can still qualify you for welfare. People working at Walmart still get food stamps because they are living in poverty. So a person on welfare needs a job that pays better than that and they are not there for them. Do you realize how badly the deck is stacked against you if you are destitute? It's a hole you cannot get out of in todays world. If you work you ought not be poor. It's really quite simple and not at all what we have. The Walton family are the richest people in the world! Their employees are qualifying for food stamps! They cant afford to pay more? Walmart's ruling family, the Waltons, has more wealth than 42% of American families combined. The Walton family is the richest family in the United States, with more wealth than Bill Gates and Warren Buffett combined. The Waltons' wealth comes from their inherited, controlling stake in Walmart.
This is the accountable corporations you are talking about. We should fund welfare with our tax dollars while their employer, the richest family in America cant cover their needs?
@mark1974: It could if he faces a younger, spry opponent like Rubio or Cruz.
God forbid.
God forbid or not it could become an issue. So I would suggest to Sanders to chew one of those cough tablets and stop with the 3:00 am campaigning under the snow.

Yeah, I did see it. It was bizarre in the worst way, but it looks like he might get 5th place. Was not expecting that.
Damn, Kasich with the feels speech about pain, wins and loses we get when we are alone. WTF dude? Heavy stuff.
I enjoyed Trump's victory speech. "I am going to be the greatest jobs president that God has ever seen!"
OMG NO ONE TOLD ME THERE'D BE BOASTING.

It happened again after the debate.
Rubio said in an interview last night that it was a staple of his campaign and that he is going to keep saying it, lol.

lol. WTF?
I'm just curious how low you have to finish in the primary to consider reevaluating your campaign. Ben Carson with 2% and Carly Fiorina with 4% seem like prime candidates for a good reevaluation.

You see people abusing the government assistance programs all the time. I'm not sure expanding these programs is going to be very beneficial to the country. It might be. I might be way off base, but I see a lot of abuse as it is right now and a ton of incompetence on the government's side of things. Most people don't like having to give their earned money to people who don't contribute anything to society. I realize there are a ton of actually needy people out there that could and should get government assistance and I'm all for helping them. But can the US actually afford that with all of the people who aren't trying to contribute? That's the real question. I'm not against it, I'm more cautious than anything. The government has shown time and time again that's it's incompetent at even the simplest things. Billions of dollars were wasted or just simply disappeared in Iraq and Afghanistan. Do you really want to give more money to the government to mishandle? Socialism, just like capitalism, is fantastic in theory, but typically breaks down when you add the human element. Socialism's success is based on the assumption that all of the money and help goes where it is needed/supposed to, which will never be the case as long as humans are involved.
As for the walmart part of your post, what do you want to do? Make businesses pay a lot more money is taxes? I'm all for closing the business loopholes, but raise the taxes on businesses and a lot will take their business elsewhere. Not necessarily Walmart but other businesses as well. Does that really benefit the US? Lost jobs? Higher prices for food and other products? I see socialism supporters always show that the rich corporations CAN afford to pay higher taxes and pay their workers more, but that's not the problem. The problem is WILL they pay their workers more or move somewhere else with cheaper taxes and workers? It's something to consider. I'm no economist or expert on anything about the economy so I'm merely raising these points rather than arguing that they are right. Our version of capitalism is broken, that's for sure. However, it seems a little naive to me to think that socialism will fair any better.
I do support better minimum wages.
@Allicrombie: It really depends. I think Bush will try to turn it around at least as far along as SC. Perhaps further. Kasich might has delusions of grandeur here after a near win, and Cruz still has some momentum. People like Fiorina and Carson can last as long as their donations do, because a lot of those candidates are in it for later book deals and speaking gigs. The more stories and name recognition they can get out of it the better. Then on the flip side of things, those who still might have a political career after a loss will begin hearing whisperings from party leaders to bow out for various reason (a la Rand Paul).
It all gets kind of complex depending on where they see their paths heading after a potential (or nearly certain in some cases) campaign loss.
@mattbbpl: Right, I know there's a lot of external factors affecting the decision to suspend a campaign, it just seems an interesting aspect of the whole process. Why one candidate may or may not elect to continue and how such a decision would be reached would probably be vastly different from why another candidate would choose to suspend their campaign.
@GreySeal9:
@Aljosa23: Yeah, I love how he caught himself halfway through and swallowed his tongue.
LOL what he said. ^
Poor Rubio. smh
@Allicrombie: I expect Fiorina to get out in the next 24 to 72 hours unless she decides to spend enormous sums of her on personal money to stay on the race. It would all be in vain.
Carson is counting on a much more conservative, Evangelical Republican electorate, which boosted him before in the polling, in South Carolina to do better. Plus I guess he thinks he can harness a significant portion of the large African American vote in South Carolina.
So part of the calculus is past and current performance, of course, plus the configuration of future states still coming up.
Seems only those finishing in the top 5 qualify to participate in the South Carolina debate, Christie will finish tonight 6th. So I think Fiorina is out (it actually doesn't matter), Christie is "taking a breather" and going back to New Jersey to do some thinking, aka he is probably out.
So we have Cruz and Trump (and Carson barely registering) on the Anti-establishment lane. Rubio, Kasich and Bush on the Establishment lane. A little bit more of clarity.
But watch out for Jim Gilmore making his push at any moment.
Cruz 3rd place finish isn't too shabby. He spent nearly no money in NH, not much time when compare to other candidates. He has money in the bank infrastructure/organization and ground game to continue.
Rubio said in an interview last night that it was a staple of his campaign and that he is going to keep saying it, lol.
Well he can expect to continue to get mediocre results in future primaries if he continues to do that.
@GreySeal9
Christie already did what he had to do. Rubio won't recover much in future primaries and he will continue to do poorly. He will fail to get past third in future primaries most likely. He's facing the same problem Jeb Bush is facing currently. He's unappealing to primary voters.
I'm rather happy to see Kasich get second. I'm hoping this gets him some moment and potentially end up winning the nomination over Cruz or Trump. The guy really has become the most reasonable republican of the entire lot. Don't get me wrong I still hope a Democrat wins, but in case they do not I want the alternative to be bearable.
I gotta say, I love this stuff, love it.
Now watching CNN and alternatively, MSNBC. Sadly I don't get Fox News (the more options, the better).
You do know you are on something called the internet right? anyways Google is your friend ;)
As to the election, Trump and Sanders looks to have this in the bag. Kinda crazy that someone as socialist as Sanders seems more and more like the next democratic presidential candidate.
Hopefully tho America will not vote crazy old man Bernie into the white house.
He's not going to win the Democratic nomination. The rest of the calendar is not favorable to him.
I hope not, Sanders is a crazy old man who will hurt America. It´s crazy that young people goes for his socialistic agenda´s
Pretty amazing the national socialist party is doing so well. Wait. Whats the name now? that does not sound right. The socialist democrats? National democratic socialists? Well its not important I guess, what's in a name?
@servomaster: that a madman is a better choice than a septigenarian that runs away and leaves his followers to fend for themselves when confronted by little girls?
@magicalclick: Bernie Sanders has a proven track record, Trump is all talk, no walk. Hell say anything to get something from you, hes a taker, he doesnt believe in giving.
@effec_tor: Obama was a good leader in Chicago. I remember before he even ran for President, him and Joe Biden use to attend every Chicago Bulls home game and was extremely big in giving back to the community.
They also had awesome track records, Biden has one of the best track records in government. Biden is also my hero.

That they don't care if they support a racist xenophobe.
@servomaster: so our choice is racist xenophobe vs. nutless coward that abandons the ship at the first sign of trouble? Yay democracy.
@servomaster: so our choice is racist xenophobe vs. nutless coward that abandons the ship at the first sign of trouble? Yay democracy.
He's got some pretty big balls if he's the only one will stand up to the banks.
@servomaster: running away from conflict like a kicked puppy is a dead giveaway to his character. It was an unscripted moment and gives more insight than some carefully managed campaign trail fiction.
You guys should learn to recognize a real moment when it happens right in front of you.
I'm rather happy to see Kasich get second. I'm hoping this gets him some moment and potentially end up winning the nomination over Cruz or Donald "I promise not to talk about your massive plastic surgeries" Trump. The guy really has become the most reasonable republican of the entire lot. Don't get me wrong I still hope a Democrat wins, but in case they do not I want the alternative to be bearable.
I hope he does well in the next few states, but I don't think he will. The democrats are probably happy now that the person they hated the most to run against on the republican side is probably not much of a threat anymore.
