I think he is alright. His beats are sick. His lyrics are mostly just mediocre. Favorite song of his is Welcome to the Heartbreak.
What do you guys think of Kanye West?

All I have to say is that Kanye West likes FISHSTICKS and he is not a lyrical geniusGameGuy642003I hate your sig. Its fine if you don't like hip hop but don't say it isn't "real music"
Im not into rap, but I think hes a decent artist! I do think hes extremly egotistical! But, at the sametime, people give him to much crap! The day after the whole taylor swift vma situation, he appeared on leno! Leno mentioned his dead mother for god sakes. Im sorry, but that was uncalled for! Hes a human being just like the rest of us.Even if he has said some stupid things. I think people should leave the guy alone!airg6agreed.
I also found it pretty stupid that Chris Brown beat the **** out of Rihanna and nobody cared but Kanye embarrasses a girl and people can't let it go.

I agree! I think people just love to hate on the guy! He basically has a bandwagon of haters! Its stupid! It angers me so much how chris brown got off so lightly as well! Well, I guess thats one of the perks of being famous! You have connections and are allowed to cheat the system. It sickens me![QUOTE="gym_rat9000"]I hate your sig. Any artist or band that produces music that requires some musical ability to play and doesnt involve having your voice auto tuned or talking in rythm about drugs, women, guns, and cash money.Hip hop isnt real music though... why would you say it is. Progressive Metal! I mean, I consider rap to be some what musical! I think its more of a form of poetry! I just dont think rapping takes very much skill to begin with![QUOTE="JML897"]Any artist or band that produces music that requires some musical ability to play and doesnt involve having your voice auto tuned or talking in rythm about drugs, women, guns, and cash money. What's your definition of "real" music?

You just described The Roots, a hip-hop group.
(The Roots are just one example, by the way. There are many more.)

Im not saying all hip hop groups arent real music. Just a large majority of hip hop/rap musicians shouldnt be able to have their work considered real music because everything in the song is computer generated and takes no instrumental talent. I love eminem for instance, but that isnt music, i see it as more of poetry.[QUOTE="JML897"][QUOTE="chugachea"] Hip hop isnt real music though... why would you say it is. Thats just absurdchugachea

These things are still instruments. But, youre not really physically playing them! Its not the same at all! There is so much more emotion when an actual human is playing the instrument instead of using something else to play it for you. Like, take for instance, look up hope leaves live by Opeth! You can see and feel the emotion of Mikael Akerfeldt(guitarist/vocalist)when he plays the guitar! There is a huge difference between using a computer or drum machine and actually playing an instrument! You just described The Roots, a hip-hop group.

When rappers perform live they often perform with a live band composed of a drummer, singers, sometimes guitars, horns, ect., and rappers often exhibit a ton of emotion when performing. It's one thing to not particularly enjoy rap music - that's perfectly fine. But I think it's a bit unfair to say its not music all together.[QUOTE="-Sun_Tzu-"][QUOTE="chugachea"] Im not saying all hip hop groups arent real music. At most they might have backup singers and a drummer! But, I usually just see the rapper and a dj who has the beat and samples playing in the background! I dont think a person talking into a mic should be considered music. Like I said before, its more of a form of poetry than anything![QUOTE="-Sun_Tzu-"] Producing good songs with a computer, a sampler, ect. still takes a lot of instrumental talent. Like I said before, its more of a form of poetry than anything!airg6Its completely ridiculous to discount the values of vocals and lyrics as music. Most emotions in contemporary music comes from the tone set by the vocalist/singer/rapper and the instruments and beat is meant to reinforce that. In classical music and with contemporary composers is when you get people who are masters at manipulating emotions with instruments. A guitar conveys no more emotion than a man taping on a wall with his fingers. That's why all bands/groups/artist have or are vocalists.

I dont think a person talking into a mic should be considered music. Like I said before, its more of a form of poetry than anything! Well, rappers performing live with bands is not a rare occurrence. It happens quite often. And there are similarities between rap and poetry, but rap is much, much, much more rhythmic than poetry, and the creation of appealing beats takes a fair amount of musical talent. And if you look at the dictionary definition of "music", hip hop fits that definition perfectly fine.airg6

Because you can totally recreate the beat to this with instruments right.
And I think Kanye is a great artist and I will be getting his new album later this year.

The question is... who is their right mind would want to? The first minute of the song is a synthesized beat with some lady saying "flashing lights" over and over.[QUOTE="clayron"][QUOTE="airg6"]Actually, rarely do I see rappers perform live with bands!
