[QUOTE="higgydiggy"][QUOTE="airg6"]But, youre not really physically playing them! Its not the same at all! There is so much more emotion when an actual human is playing the instrument instead of using something else to play it for you. Like, take for instance, look up hope leaves live by Opeth! You can see and feel the emotion of Mikael Akerfeldt(guitarist/vocalist)when he plays the guitar! There is a huge difference between using a computer or drum machine and actually playing an instrument!
chugachea
Because you can totally recreate the beat to this with instruments right.
And I think Kanye is a great artist and I will be getting his new album later this year.
The question is... who is their right mind would want to? The first minute of the song is a synthesized beat with some lady saying "flashing lights" over and over. But according to you it took no ammount of skill because it's made on a computer right. What kind of software do you use where it magically makes beats with ease?
[QUOTE="-Sun_Tzu-"][QUOTE="airg6"]I beg to differ sir!So basically, your saying, talking using no tonality should be considered musical?chugacheaSo are drums not musical now? There's very little tonality when it comes to drumming as well. But they take talent to play well. Not just anyone can sit down and start wailing on the drums and look like a pro, where as anyone off the street can sing into a microphone and have it auto tuned and distorted and have it sound perfect (example: Ke$ha) Ok whoa! Calling anything Ke$ha music is an insult to music. I think we can all agree on that. Also, I agree with auto-tune. Hate it. But, I personally think vocalists are the true masterminds behind what some would call music, at least with a majority of todays music. I do not mean to discount the value of instrument, god knows I love them.

It dosent really! Nor is there any real emotion behind it! Put me in front of a beat program, and I guarantee I could make a good beat in 5 minutes! In fact, I have before!Calling anything Ke$ha music is an insult to music.clayronI hate to say it, but it is music really - just crap music.
[QUOTE="clayron"]Calling anything Ke$ha music is an insult to music.iamdisappointedI hate to say it, but it is music really No. When you get something like Kesha, you're no longer dealing with music, simple as that.
If you read what I said, I did say"Talking", Drums take actual talent to play! Talking into a mic does not. Nor is it musical in any way. Like I said, rap is a form of poetry. Its not music!! Drums add to the music! You cant make a drumset speak poetry either sir! :Oairg6And it doesn't take skill to sing/rap? To say singing or rapping doesn't create music is crazy. Because Webster throughly disagrees with you:
mu·sic (myzk) n.
1. The art of arranging sounds in time so as to produce a continuous, unified, and evocative composition, as through melody, harmony, rhythm, and timbre.
2. Vocal or instrumental sounds possessing a degree of melody, harmony, or rhythm.

Producing good songs with a computer, a sampler, ect. still takes a lot of instrumental talent. These things are still instruments. But, youre not really physically playing them! who cares if they're physically playing them?!? just as much hard work and emotion goes into making a great hip hop beat as it does making a "progressive metal" song. listen to the link i provided and you will realize how foolish you sound. you wanna talk about emotion....

Im sorry sir, but im gonna have to disagree with you! Making a beat is one of the most simple emotionless things out there! Making a good beat takes little skill! Im sorry if you dont agree with me! But, I dont find anything emotional about the untonality of rappers voices, the repeating samples of other artists music and the repetitiveness of rap beats and the music itself. Im sorry, but its boring and contains very little emotion! At least human emotion! If you consider using a computer to play something for you to be emotional, I dont know what to tell you :OIt dosent really! Nor is there any real emotion behind it! Writing simple, repetitive rhythms does not take talent. I can compose better music than that and so can many others. It dosent really! Nor is there any real emotion behind it! I would like you to define exactly what music is, because apparently to you, music is just changing pitches and tones. Then I could argue that your definition is not music, and instead say that flow and rhythm is what defines music. I don't see why saying something with different pitches makes it any more affecting than if I were to say it with just flow and a different tone of voice. Let your work do the talking, but I highly doubt you will be able to do it within a day. Do you know exactly how much somebody gets paid to make a beat like that? They can make a living off of it, feeding their family, living in luxury, and it takes more work than just one day. It takes weeks, months even. Good luck.

Rap songs nearly always have a chorus.

I'm sorry for approving of composers who bother to actually make use of harmony, tonality and melody - you know, all the other stuff that's been the foundation of music that's not crap since the ancient Greeks. You go on listening to rap, by all means. But it's worthless stuff, and wouldn't exist were it not for musical culture falling off a cliff - do bear that in mind. :)[QUOTE="iamdisappointed"][QUOTE="airg6"]Are you kidding me?
