I always find it odd when a cover is vastly greater than the original, such as here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DyM5jb2ZABs&ob=av2n[QUOTE="ShuLordLiuPei"]

[QUOTE="Ninja-Hippo"] DEFINITELY WALES. Dude, no way this is happening in England. Just no way. SolidSnake35We must accept that the best British band is Welsh. We must.
Radiohead aren't Welsh. Getcho facts straight, son.
Boring, yes. More exciting than the Cure's original, also yes. Not even. The melody, the bass lines, the lyrics which by the way are the best lyrics in a love song. Guaranteed to get you laid if you use it properly.[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"]You are familiar with that.....that....boring caterwauling?ShuLordLiuPei

Honestly, The Cure's version is noticeably better because of the instrumental but I do have to say that Adelle is a better singer than Robert Smith.

i like the cover of Video better ....As far as cover songs go, am I the only one who finds the Presidents' version of "Video Killed The Radio Star" MUCH better than the irritating original?
Also, Hurt by Johnny Cash beats the NIN version, even though the original was also really good.

Just listened to it. I much prefer the original. Yes, the original is more kitsche, but it's a conceptual song and I think when you remove that plastic tacky sort of 80s theme from it, the song loses its purpose.

You can't fool me....you like it cause it's more pop.:PTo be honest, I very rarely enjoy covers, at least more than the original. And I really dislike Adele, but ever since LJ started his anti-Queen crusade...
Honestly, the only covers I enjoy more than the originals both come from The Fugees, "Killing me Softly With His Song" and "No Woman No Cry." But that's just because of how much I love The Fugees.
The vocals on the cover of Video Killed sounds better on the cover, but it is missing the whole goofiness the original had. I guess I prefer the original because of the feel/emotion of the song itself, just like people are saying about that Adele cover being boring. As far as cover songs go, am I the only one who finds the Presidents' version of "Video Killed The Radio Star" MUCH better than the irritating original?

80s was an interesting decade. The mainstream I suppose did have some kitsch/garishness if you like. The music, the movies, the TV, the pop culture.....but it also saw the start of some good directions that weren't garish.. And the charm was gone by the 90s.Anti Queen crusade? I just don't want to ever hear them again.LJS9502_basicI'm just browsing OT one day, and all of the sudden, I'm jumped.
LJS: Scoff... how could you like a campy band like Queen?...
Me: Oh, to each their own I suppose. I just have always enjoyed such so-
LJS: Scoff... The Cure... scoff
Me: Well actually, I find that the Cure to be enjoyable, and while both have their merits, I just happen to enjoy Queen more.
LJS: This isn't the last you'll hear of this, Pie...
That's how I remember it going down, at least.

I don't really think garishness is inherently bad tho. Depends on the context really.

Glam metal was garish....and bad.Well, I'm not saying garish is never bad. I'm just saying that it's not inherently bad. For instance, Lovecats and Six Different Ways are both kind of garish, but I like both of them.
The Beatles also have some good garish stuff.

I think Queen is awesome. I mean, yeah, their music started to get crappy in the 80s but man they have so many great songs. Bohemian Rhapsody, Killer Queen, Death on Two Legs, We Are The Champions, Don't Stop Me Now, Love of my Live, Somebody to Love, Seven Seas of Rhye, and the list goes on.

Don't try to reason with me! I'll just respond with "lolqueen". :PMy God, chaos really entered this thread, at first this thread was kept to its original purpose, where users were able to mention if there are any other users at all they'd like to see banned, then all of a sudden darkness rises and we get Stalker/Liar/TDH this and that warfare, and while that eventually started to blow over in the last ten pages or so, this thread is still off track since its now become a discussion oh how much Nickelback sucks.Toph_Girl250
As much of a clusterfvck as this thread has been, I don't think OT would be worth coming to if we didn't occasionally get these kind of threads.
