[QUOTE="sammyjenkis898"][QUOTE="strieeyes"]No one said Ben Affleck?? That guy is so one dimesionalstrieeyes
Not a lot of people like him..
Which is why I was so surprised that I was the first one to bring him up. He is terrible!
The topic is asking for overrated actors, not terrible ones. He isn't overrated if people don't like him.
Well, he was nominated for an Oscar after all...strieeyes
He won an oscar for screenplay. He wasn't nominated for his acting.
That chick in Juno... Hell I forget her name. Everybody seems to love her yet I think she is a really bad actress...Wasdie
watch Hard Candy.
[QUOTE="Zero5000X"][QUOTE="TreyoftheDead"]I can't believe you mentioned Humphrey Bogart. :|
That man has a screen presence that pretty much no modern actor could even hope to match.
As for my choices, Will Ferrel is definitely up there. The man is simply not funny. Modern day Al Pacino...sometimes. He was a great actor and he still can be, except when he's shouting every line in his raspy voice.
TreyoftheDead
i don't even think he's a decent actor... terrible really. did you see the one where he played a Mexican? Probably his worst film.
Have you seen "The Maltese Falcon"? Or "Casablanca"? Or "The Treasure of the Sierra Nevada"? "The Desperate Hours"?
Listen, he's no Laurence Olivier. He's no method actor either. The man had a presence that cannot be imitated and he knew how to deliver lines. People praise Bogart because he commands the screen and his performances contain subtle nuances that are endlessly fascinating to watch.
When he speaks the line "Of all the gin joints, in all the towns, in all the world, she walks into mine.", his delivery is perfect. As is the cynicism when he declares,"I stick my neck out for no body."
I'm not sure what you are looking for in Bogart's performances, but it's obvious you expected something else out of him. Which is silly...as I said...people admire his performances for a very specific reason: presence.
I was only referring to his acting ability. maybe terrible was a little harsh. lets just say he's no Johnny Depp.
Sean Connery, the guy has a Scottish accent in every movie, even when he is playing characters that are not Scottish. He doesn't even attempt to make himself sound different.
Nicholas Cage, he's just the most annoying actor out there and has no talent.

I've read that he keeps his accent on purpose. Part of his iconic persona or something like that... something to make him stand out.
Humphrey Bogart is not the least bit overrated. What actors do you feel are overrated? For me:
Denzel "Plays the same character in every movie" Washington.
Humphrey Bogart - this guy isn't even a decent actor imo.
Shia LeBouf - idk why people like him.
Tom Cruise - i only like him in Collateral.
Zero5000X
Go see In a Lonely Place and THEN tell me he isn't a great actor.
[QUOTE="Trelaf_TheWise"][QUOTE="Big_Bad_Sad"][QUOTE="Trelaf_TheWise"][QUOTE="Big_Bad_Sad"]Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. I just hope their kids dont get into acting.Big_Bad_Sad
you think having watched Mr. and Ms Smith makes you qualified to judge Brad Pitt's acting? Go home man...
I havent seen Mr and Mrs Smith...Ok name some movies where you found Brad Pitt's acting to be bad...
Troy. The only film I thought he really stood out in was Snatch. His work in The Assassination of Jesse James is one of the great performances of the decade.A lot of people are mentioning Orlando Bloom. I've always thought he was a fairly good actor. I don't think he's really had any challenging roles though. Did anyone ever see Haven? Pretty good movie. I think some people just have a problem taking really good looking actors seriously. Leonardo DiCapprio had this problem for a while.Zero5000X
Yeah I think this is somewhat true. When I was a kid I hated the fact that every girl in my class was obessed with him in R+J and Titanic, so I just had a bias towards him. But now I can see he is a pretty fantastic actor and someone who can portray very convincing characters in great films. He's definately one of my top 5 actors, he also has a knack for choosing some great films.

Yes you are right, I liked him in Gangs Of New York, that film was so good. I loved Titanic when I was a kid, you can't hate him because the girls like him though lol.. if you had a girlfriend and she fancied him would you be annoyed? I wouldn't, my gf said to me once, Orlando Bloom is sexy then I said I know, and then we had sex. Please Log In to post.
