[QUOTE="MAILER_DAEMON"][QUOTE="Bardock47"]

Whoa, when did this thing finally get moving again? Last I heard they were still having negoteations.

Bardock47

Just in the last few weeks, they somehow got it together and named Peter Jackson as the director. Right now the big problem seems to be where it will be filmed, since the labor spat made Warner Bros. quite angry. I hope they realize that they at least need to film repeat locations in New Zealand, otherwise there will be a serious fan outcry.

Awesome :D. I hope they get New Zealand, thats the best pace for Middle-Earth to be filmed.

New Zealand is such a beautiful place. I remember watching the special features showing all the places that they filmed and it was just breath taking to see the locations that they used for the movie.

[QUOTE="Hexagon_777"][QUOTE="October_Tide"]I think he would make a great bilbo. Pity the production of the Hobbit may be moved away from New Zealand thanks to a bunch of morons in Australia and here. Durpa durpa.October_Tide
Elaborate?

Basically film unions started complaining about the terms of their contracts and working conditions, then an Australian film association or film actors association, not sure what the name was, called for a boycott of the film. Things got out of hand, and Warner Brothers is thinking about moving production over seas.

There have been a lot of news stories here, it would take a while to post them all.

So in the end they don't have a job at all. Brilliant people.

[QUOTE="worlock77"]Ehh, John Rhys-Davies, who played Gimli in The Lord of the Rings was the tallest member of the main cast.angelkimne
Wow. They did a good job hiding it.

They apparently asked him to come back and take on a role but...

Recently, in an Empire Magazine interview, John Rhys Davies revealed that he was asked to return to the world of Tolkien for the upcoming film version of The Hobbit. Davies turned down the offer, stating "I've already been asked and to be honest with you, I wouldn't. I have already completely ruled it out. There's a sentimental part of me that would love to be involved again. Really I am not sure my face can take that sort of punishment any more", referring to the pain he went through having the prosthetics fitted to play Gimli — Rhys-Davies suffered severe allergic reactions to the prosthetics with eyes swelling shut during filming. He added that this time around "They've got a different set of problems... because you've got 13 dwarves, a whole band of them... You're trying to represent a whole race... You're trying to do for dwarves what 'The Lord of the Rings' did for hobbits".Wikipedia

Not a very good head shot.. I wonder how well Hobbit will turn out in comparison to the LOTR movies.

I'm quite uncertain but does Bilbo have the ring yet in the Hobbit?

ExoticAnimal

He finds the ring during The Hobbit.

Thats for clarifying that up.

▲ He steals it from Gollum. Just want to show off my limited knowledge of the series....The Hobbit was the only one I was able to read. ;_;▲

No, Bilbo finds it in Gollum's cave under the Misty Mountains.

They could have just kept Ian Holm...

He did a flashblack in Fellowship of the Ring and looked rather young.

But oh well. *shrugs*

no_more_fayth

I don't think he has to look young. The ring prevented him from growing older - "You haven't aged a day".

Should look just the same as he did in LOTR. That said, Ian Holm himself is probably too old for the role.

I know that of course. I just wasn't sure if that part was in the Hobbit or not.

Martin Freeman is awesome but...I am confused.

In Hot Fuzz he was husky...in Hitchhiker's Guide he was slim...did he just lose weight, or did he change into the roll?

Yeah, pretty much Holm is old, in less than stellar health and can't or doesn't want to play the role, although there is a possibility that he may narrate the films.
