See the above statement made to super_mario_128. :evil:I've never listened to PT. Floyd is amazing though. So yeah.

That is a tough question. Pink Floyd is more psychedelic rock mixed with prog while Porcupine tree is more Hard Prog with a metal flavor. I will break down each band's best album from best to worst and compare them.
Pink Floyd
1. Wish you were here- A brilliant album. Their most consistant overall with great lyrics, and songwriting. 10/10.
2. Meddle- The first album of theirs I listened to. It is weird and psychedelic but it never drags or gets dull. 10/10
3. The Wall- A great concept album with a couple of weaker songs that work in context with the rest of the album but on their own are not as impressive. 9/10.
4. Atom heart mother- One of their most underrated early albums. It has the fantastic weird psychedelic sounds of Meddle but it is a bit more hit and miss and tends to get a bit monotonous at times. 8.5/10
5. Dark side of the moon- Their most famous album. An absolute classic that while having some filler and duller parts, still manages to be a very impressive album. 8/10.
6. Animals- Another underrated album of theirs. This one has some of David Gilmour's best guitar work, but the album's overall bleakness, and how generic the concept is drag it down. Still a fantastic album but with that sometimes tries too hard to have a message. 8/10
7. A Momentary lapse of reason- The first time without Roger Waters. This album has a few great moments but David Gilmour's songwriting lacks the edge that Roger Water's had and a lot of the album seems like filler. It is underrated, and Learning to fly is a good song but this just feels bland. Worth a listen still. 7.5/10.
8. Piper at the gates of dawn- Their debut album. Some say this is their best, and I can understand why. Syd Barret's songwriting was weird, and the songs were interesting to listen to. However the album feels like a band trying to find their identity and even though I respect Syd Barret, I would say that Roger Waters is a better songwriter. 7/10.
9. A Saucer full of secrets- This has some amazing atmosphere but after Piper at the gates of dawn it just feels like more of the same only weirder. Still work a listen for some great psychdelic moments. 7/10.
10. Ummagumma- I still have to listen to this one a bit more. I can't tell but I think I like it. 6.5/10.
11. Obscured by clouds- This album has some of the best atmosphere of any of their albums, but it is nowhere near as good as Meddle. 6.5/10.
12. The Division bell- Has some moments but at this point they are just getting boring. 5/10
13. The Final cut- Good concepts, but Roger Water's songwriting is more whiny and depressed than ever. By far their worst album. 3/10.
Porcupine tree
1. Lightbulb sun- My favorite of theirs. Came out right as their were starting to get into Prog Metal yet it still has that psychedelic charm of their older albums mixed with some pop. 10/10.
2. In Absentia- A Fantastic, and dark album with only one slightly weak song. 9.5/10.
3. Deadwing- They are really getting into metal here. Gets slightly forgotten by some but I love it just as much as In Absentia. Arriving somewhere but not here is a brilliant song. 9.5/10.
4. Stupid Dream- A very underrated album with some very bleak songs mixed with a harder edge than their previous albums. A bit inconsistant but still fantastic. 9/10.
5. The Incident- An interesting concept album with a very vague and disconnected concept. It has some of the band's best songs though like Remember me lover, and I drive the hearse. 9/10.
6. The Sky moves sideways- The best of their early psychadelic albums. The songs can get a bit dull after a while though. 8.5/10.
7. Fear of a blank planet- All the songs are good to great, but the lyrics can be a bit cheesy at times and I got the point of it pretty early on. 8.5/10
8. Signify- Has some harder moments that are almost metal, but they still maintain their psychadelic sound. A bit hit and miss though especially with the instrumentals. 8/10.
9. Up the downstair- One of their earliest albums. They are pretty much a psychadelic rock band now but they are starting to develop their own sound even if it is a bit dull at times. 7/10.
10. On the sunday of life- Has some potential, but I don't like it much. 4/10.
Overall I prefer Pink Floyd. Their later albums are not too good but their older albums make up for that while Porcupine tree's best work is later rather than earlier. I am tempted to say it is a tie.
Buddy, they don't even compare. Floyd all the way.
Porcupine Tree is just another side-project of one of the various other big bands out now.
But Pink Floyd will always be legendary.caityful
What? :?
What songs/albums have you listened to by them?[QUOTE="ArmoredCore55"][QUOTE="haggard_korn"]
The only Pink Floyd song I like is High Hopes and my god I ****in love that song! I'm guessing I'd feel the same about Porcupine Tree.
haggard_korn
I'm not sure. My dad is a huge Pink Floyd fan and we used to always listen to them during long car rides. High Hopes is the only song that ever stood out enough for me to ask him the name of it.
Well, that's your problem, you missed all of The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, and The Wall(their stuff that them famous).
However, I've learned a long time ago, not many people really like Pink Floyd, it shocks me, because I absolutely love them.
I've never heard of Pink Floyd. quadraleap...huh? That's like saying you never heard of Zeppelin....

Pink Floyd definitely has made a big influence on music but I'll give this one to Porcupine Tree. Floyd has too much synth/noise for my liking.
It depends, they are both among my favourite bands, I like songs from both more than some songs the other band written but it general you'd have to go with Floyd really, considering Roger Waters was one of Steven Wilson's biggest influences.
As far as progressive rock goes though I prefer King Crimson and Genesis
Is that a joke? Your avatar is Floyd, for goodness sake!!!Pink Floyd definitely has made a big influence on music but I'll give this one to Porcupine Tree. Floyd has too much synth/noise for my liking.

I've listened to every album of each band quite a few times and honestly, I prefer Porcupine Tree. Pink Floyd has some stellar and I'm certain revolutionary work, but ultimately Steven's brainchild applies so much more often and eloquently to my artistic sensibilities, be it thematically through the lyrics or the bands' instrumental approach. I'm rarely left aghast by their efforts and PF has a share of works I consider utterly menopausal. Thin and diluted. While PT has released a notable few low points as well; I'm generally more satisfied with their highs and less disappointed by their lows than PF.
