This "Whats your Plans for weekend" topic is always hilarious, since it always gets posted Friday night, when my weekend is already over and I'm getting ready for the new week.

I'm registered in a part time formation to become an osteopath (you don't have to be a medical doctor here in Canada), but because it's part time and for health professionnals, it's given mostly on week-ends... so this week I have class thursday to sunday. Sucks to have to wake up, but I'm preparing for a better future, so it's fine really.

Alternative medicine, basically... when someone has a problem (usually pain) that is not explained by traditionnal medicine, for example ankle pain but nothing special shows up on the X-Ray or MRI... then it's because there's a functionnal problem, as opposed to a structural problem. Most doctors will send you home with pain killers, the osteopath will do some manual techniques to replace whatever is wrong. Can help with most musculo-skeletal problems, as well as more internal problems such as headaches, digestive problems, etc.

Shopping, spending some time with friends, and I want to try and get in to see a movie. Either It's Kind of a Funny Story or Hereafter. If not I will definitely be renting some movies.

Rather, I'm doing homework, working a shift and staring at a computer screen. :(
Hopefully I'll play some music with a friend on Sunday though, so that should be good.

[QUOTE="Logan1616"] LIke herbal medicine? Or could you get more specific?

No, basically you manipulate joints ("crack" them, but it won't always crack) to replace some bones, free up a pinched nerve, relieve tension, etc. [QUOTE="Wikipedia"] Osteopathy or osteopathic medicine is an approach to healthcare that emphasizes the role of the musculoskeletal system in health and disease. Outside of the United States, osteopathy has been considered a form of complementary medicine, emphasizing a holistic approach and the skilled use of a range of manual and physical treatment interventions in the prevention and treatment of disease. In practice, this most commonly relates to musculoskeletal problems such as back and neck pain. Osteopathic principles teach that treatment of the musculoskeletal system (bones, muscles and joints) aids the recuperative powers of the body. These are the four major principles of osteopathy: - The body is a unit. An integrated unit of mind, body, and spirit (Triune of Man - A.T. Still) - The body possesses self-regulatory mechanisms, having the inherent capacity to defend, repair, and remodel itself. - Structure and function are reciprocally inter-related - Rational therapy is based on consideration of the first three principles

Basically osteopaths consider that the body, unless it's actually "broken" (fracture, dislocation, degenerative conditions like cancer or diabetes) the body has the ability to fix itself and should work in equilibrium. In certain conditions, this equilibrium is temporarely not achieved, and the osteopath's job is to find what is preventing everything from working normally. For example, foot pain might be caused by a bone in the foot to be SLIGHTLY misplaced. Nothing fracture, nothing out of place, just a few millimeters or degrees off. You won't see that on traditional imagery (xrays, MIR, etc). By using palpation, the osteopath will feel it, replace it, and the pain will be gone.

I don't hold anything against anyone I met. Holding grudges, I believe, is bad for the mind and psyche, plus I believe in the good in everyone, at least for the most time. I'm sorry about your loss, and try to get through the weekend man.
