I didn't expect that. But to be honest the only insight I had on japan was of the quirky cosplay girls :P
[QUOTE="Flame_Blade88"]Isn't there a declining birth rate in Japan too? Both do not go well together...funsohngYeah but suicide isn't that big compared to natural/other deaths. in fact, the death rate is decreasing too. Yeah it was just something I heard offhand. Wasn't sure it if was true or not.

Actually, suicide is the NUMBER ONE cause of death among Japanese people less than the age of 30. That's ridiculous.
[QUOTE="weezyfb"]i guess it has to do with their culturemeconate...I don't quite understand what you mean... I think you're taking Kamikaze a little too seriously. :P No, East Asian culture takes responsibility and honour extremely seriously, and it was commonplace (especially in Japan) for the ones responsible to commit suicide after a company goes bankrupt (not really big now, but these kind of mentality still exist).

It's nothing to be proud of, but South Korea has higher suicide rate (and for a good reason. Our govt sucks). There is a lot of cultural influences in East Asian countries that affect suicide rate and depression. For one thing, if you are seen going to a psychiatry, you will be seen with weird looks from your co-workers the next day.funsohng
Love South Korea and Japan, but honestly, I can't stand the culture sometimes. Again, it's obviously from me not living in the culture, but the social pressure, etc..Is so high.

huh? Both of you are confusing me . What he said is that it's the number one cause of death for people below 30, and you said probably most people die after 30 (?).
Isn't there a declining birth rate in Japan too? Both do not go well together...Flame_Blade88Indeed. And some user said it has to do with their culture, I agree with this. For instance Samurais, and Kamikazi(spelling) pilots. The Japanese seem to like suicide for some reason.
Well in Japan, the shame associated with failiure is immense. They don't have an "Oh well, you did your best attitude". Asian parents have the stereotype of being all "NOT MEDICAL SCHOOL!? YOU WILL DIE AS HOMELESS" type of thing for a reason. Asians in general have high expectations to meet and keep.

It's cool. They make good games.
Although the Dolphin killings in Taiji and other violence pisses me off.
Isn't there a declining birth rate in Japan too? Both do not go well together...Flame_Blade88Yeah, the country will be little more than a tribe at one point if current population trends continue.
I'm a Southeast Asian and I can see why they've got a problem with thatt. Our cultures in general are pretty backwards in terms of racial/sexual/religious equality, tend to restrict social freedoms for silly reasons and try to shoehorn people into things they may not necessarily be good at - there aren't a lot of opportunities for art or whatnot here, most of our education emphasizes mathematics and science. The only reason why Malaysia doesn't suffer so much is because the people here are lazier than other SEAs and hence aren't as stressed.

I was talking about overall death rateIsn't there a declining birth rate in Japan too? Both do not go well together...Flame_Blade88The reason for that is that they were publicised for being over populated if i remember correctly. If I were to base it on that Japanese movie suicide club I would have no idea.
Knowing their work hierarchies and work expectations, I'd expect the suicide rates to be high. While I was over there I never personally witnessed one, but I heard of many instances of people jumping in front of the trains close to where I lived. The only big apartment complex in my town was also a "popular" spot for suicides. Jumping off that apartment complex was so common that the ambulances wouldn't even put on their lights or sirens when they got calls over there.

どのぐらい日本に居たのか?。なんで言っていた?。
Exactly. I also hear that people over there commit suicide for other reasons (beyond job/school stress and finances). Even for simple things like disputes with roommates/lovers...or even smaller things like diseases, disorders, and infections[QUOTE="BluRayHiDef"][QUOTE="yokofox33"]
