please recommend a good(free) anti spyware /adware .

i want one thats free. it should be light on my pc too. as an antivirus i have found avg to be excellent and doesnt slow down my pc. i want an anti-spy and anti-adware of that sort.any good ones out there? i dont have a dual core pc so take that into consideration

Adaware. Search it on download.com - i use it and it's perfect. Does everything you need it to do and isn't one of those massive programmes which treats your PC like it's a CIA mainframe. Ninja-Hippo

I used to love ad-aware, but then they crapped it up after the major update.

I use spybot for the adware, commodo for the firewall, and AVG for teh virus.

im confused.so i need a seperate software for adware and a seperate one for spyware?

Firewall blocks certain thimgs from getting to your pc ond restricts what rate you can download at, mine is strict so it takes ages:cry:

It stops bad things from waltzing into your computer (like Norton and Mcfee). Just download spybot and AVG, they seem to be the most popular and best.

Adware and spyware are essentially the same thing. one is used for spying and one is for trying to find out what advertisments pertain to you so you'll have a higher chance to buy their product. both spybot and ad-aware take care of both of those.

A firewall is a program that protects your computer from mostly internet baddies. It will lock out all your outgoing ports that aren't used for normal traffic.

Think of the internet as a suburban road that has a bunch of houses on either side. Ports are the driveways that lead to houses, or in this case, specific programs.

so is the normal firewall provided with windows useless.? so some one can screw with me net speed and stuff? how slow will it make my downloads. my net is barely 256kbps anyways.
