Welfare Abuse will always happen, there are welfare success stories. Without Welfare, the crime rate would shoot through the roofs. You put people in a situation where you're saying, either get money anyway possible or die. Safety nets protect the people from collapse, and just because some people fall into the safety net and never climb out, doesn't mean it won't help many others.[QUOTE="the_new_guy_92"]

Since the sixty's, both welfare benefits and crime rates have generally been increasing in the U.S. If the statement "Without Welfare, the crime rate would shoot through the roofs. [sic]" was accurate, we would expect to see a negative correlation between welfare and crime. That is, if welfare benefits go up, crime would decrease. We see no such correlation (at least in the U.S.) The argument is statistically erroneous.
