I'm all for human cloning because even though it's really weird and probably wrong, I find it to be one of the most interesting things in the world. I think that's why I love the movie The 6th Day so much because I find stuff on cloning fascinating.

But but buh tehy are still living!!

Someone would think that cruel, to raise people just for war. I mean, I don't think it's very nice. It should be a choice if you want to fight for your country, and it is(for no, thank God).

I can't see anything good coming from it. The world is already overpopulated with humans as it is, the last thing we need is more people. The only reasons that I can think of why someone would want to clone humans (beyond the initial "just because we can") is for organ harvesting, creating a massive army, recreating a dead loved one, making a futile attempt at immortality, or because you're increadibly narcassitic to the point that the only way you'll raise offspring is if they're you.

That would be really difficult to do, even if they could clone people in the first place. And yeah, I actually know a few people that want to sacrifice their lives for this nation. They wouldn't mind risking and living, but they also actually do find glory in dying for their country and for freedom.

I am against cloning. Too many chances for unexpected consequences.

I have to admit that I find the possibility of cloning prehistoric humans fascinating, though.

Full human cloning....not so sure because in the end they would end up being abused such as slave labor and like the Island , for their organs.

But who says we do either? We could just be a body powered by organs and a complex brain, but I try not to think it's like that.

Anyways, it may look like I'm for cloning, but I'm 100% against it. It's just not right.

But you cannot prove the existence of a "soul" in a "normal" human... :? The only foreseeable problems associate with cloning are genetic ones in narrowing the gene pool or other genetic related disease/issues.

I have a bit more faith in society than that... but I agree, I'm not really for full human cloning. However, the field does show promise in terms of organ replacement.

True. But how far would you be okay with. What if you cloned an entire person, then removed their brain and replaced it with the brain of the dying progenator. (Assuming of course that the clone is a blank slate).

Now that is something that would violate basic human rights. Clones are (at least, will be) human in every sense of the word they are just not formed with "fresh" genetic material but already existent "sampled" material.

I think not, we cant give them souls, they are just bags of flesh if you believe in that kind of thing. Then to use them for organ replacement, or breed them for certain jobs like military would be very wrong so i say nay.

Yeah then we get into clone wars and Kurt Russel " Soldier " type stuff because theres not point in cloning soldiers if countries are just mass producing them faster then they are dieing which is something short of genocide.

I'm all for human cloning. Say that you and your wife can't conceie a child because your sperm doesn't work. So instead, they clone you, implant your clone into your wife's uterus, and oila. Now you hae a child.

What's wrong with that?

but that's not a child... that's you. Like having a child that also happens to be your identical twin. I'm sure there are better ways to accomplish this, like genetically modify the sperm so it does work.

You cannot prove the existence of a "soul." From what we know, the human "soul" is just the established consciousness based on experiences in life. If this is taken to be the "soul" then a cloned human would not lack it, of course, that is if they are not isolated from experiences which prevents them from developing their individuality.

There are justifiable scientific reasons to be against cloning. Metaphysics has nothing to do with it.

Well of course it's not you, there just isn't any better way for me to describe it. And like I said, it would probably be easier to just insert the DNA from the sperm into the egg and put it in the uterus. They're already doing that, so unless the man is born without sperm to begin with I can't see cloning being necessary in this situation.

Just as Geezer already stated and I forgot about... twins are natural clones. Something "eerie" about that? Twins generally have highly variable personalities that differ highly from one another, even differ in terms of sexual preference.

It really depends. I mean, as people have said before, we could use clones to create an army and not have to worry about others dying. Basically like in Star Wars. Also, if we could clone specific body parts (ex. livers and hearts) to be used in surgery for other people, that would be very beneficial, rather than taking someone elses.

It really depends. I mean, as people have said before, we could use clones to create an army and not have to worry about others dying. Basically like in Star Wars. Also, if we could clone specific body parts (ex. livers and hearts) to be used in surgery for other people, that would be very beneficial, rather than taking someone elses.Ghost_702

An army of clones? Clones are people too, Mmkay?

It might look cool in the movies but having a clone of me would feel weird in real life.

Full human cloning....not so sure because in the end they would end up being abused such as slave labor and like the Island , for their organs.SaintLeonidas

Ack! I haven't watched that movie yet!

Well, the whole notion of having growing a full human just for their parts (which is an all too common theme in scifi these days) is wrong. In reality what scientists are trying to do is simply grow the organ, not a whole being.
