Arguably Opeth could be included in the prog metal category, I guess.

Those two bands are metalcore, not death metal. The closest they would be to death metal would be melodeath, but even then, melodic death metal is still a little too different to be considered traditional death metal. Plus, those bands aren't even that close to melodic death metal to begin with.

Pantera owns Anthrax. Take Metallica out and put in Megadeth or Artillery

Thrash, followed by Death, followed by Black, followed by Traditional.

My favorite metal band is traditional though (Iron Maiden)

Change the thread topic please. Heavy metal is it's own genre and doesn't have sub genres. Heavy metal is the sub genre of METAL.

He might be using regional talk for metalcore, which is a fusion genre i suppose... so technically metal?

That poll isn't so good... Anyway, my favorite genre is Melodic/Symphonic Metal (Haggard, After Forever, Therion, Nightwish).

No. Metalcore is not metal. That's one of the fusion genres that doesn't lean much towards either side of their main influences. So it's not hardcore punk, but it's not metal either, it simply is its own genre.

you might not want to accept it, but metallica's first four cd's are better than all of pantera, antrax, megadeth (yes even megadeth, me being the hugest rust in peace fan too ), testements' stuff.

thats why everyone says after the 3 godfathers of metal ( sab priest maiden) metallica are the next most influential.. theirs a reason behind it.
