I've never been a gambler. I don't buy scratch tickets, lottery drawing tickets, bet on races, or anything like that. But I'm tired of being poor and I'm thinking of buying a season lottery ticket.

I realize that the chances of winning are very low, but I figure they are still greater than me ever becoming rich without gambling.

So what about you? Do you play the lottery?

After learning the odds of dating a supermodel are significantly better than winning the lottery, I gave up wanting to ever spend money on a ticket ever again. I still like entertaining the idea of winning lots of money though...

But if you win the lottery, you can also get a supermodel. :)

The point is, it's far easier to find a supermodel to date than it is to win the lottery (I think it was a 1 in 667,000 chance, compared to 1 in 28,000,000).

Occassionally but the most I won was $1.00.

If I have some spare change and am feeling lucky, I'll give it a try.

Yep every month once together with 3 or 4 colleagues at work, we never won anything besides a couple of euros though (not that I'm hoping to win the lottery but maybe something better than 3 euro :P)

No, but I've been to the casino a few times. Odds of winning are low but at least with the casino you get a fun night out out of it

I'm considering on playing the lottery routinely. I know the chances are extremely slim, but if I can just hit a few numbers and win something (I'm not expecting all the numbers cause I know that's hoping too high), I'd still be a lot richer than I am now.

Right now, I don't play any form of lottery....

The lottery is merely a tax for dumb people. At least at a casino you can make a night out of it instead of a 2 min rush until you realize you have yet again wasted money on a scratch off or powerball numbers.

I do sometimes, used to play scratchies quite a bit at uni and would usually win more than I spent.

These days I tend to by lotto tickets either when the jackpot is at it's highest or generally not long after it's won (when less people would be buying tickets).

I don't play the lottery. Doing so is objectively stupid. The whole reason why I even WANT to play the lottery is because I'm poor and I want more money, and I don't have any actual skills or talent that I can use to get more money. That being said, I have bought lottery tickets, and I may buy one or more lottery tickets again in the future. I "don't play the lottery", but that doesn't mean that I'm never going to play the lottery again.

SOME of the people "playing the lottery" are "huge dumbasses". Hell, maybe even MOST of them are "huge dumbasses". But keep in mind...most of the people drawing pictures or making photographs or playing videogames are never going to earn a single goddamn penny doing so. That's just a big hole into which consumers pour their money. There's also nothing inherently wrong with that. I'd like to point out that many of the people "playing the lottery" are well aware of the fact that they are simply throwing away money. The thing here is that they have fun doing it. Instead of spending $60 bucks on a new ****ing videogame, they spend $5 a week on lottery tickets. On the list of things that people waste their money on, The Lottery CAN be pretty freaking benign. A few bucks a week is cheaper than a movie or a videogame, and it's a hell of a lot better than wasting one's money on cigarettes or booze.

Exactly. For many people who "play the lottery" they pay a measly one or two dollars for the "high" of imagining themselves actually winning. That is not much different than me buying a videogame because I want to imagine myself as an alien-killing badass who saves the world and is rewarded with the pretty chick with the huge boobs. The difference is, it's actually POSSIBLE for me to win the lottery with a $1 ticket, and indulging in that fantasy costs a hell of a lot less than many videogames. That being said, there certainly ARE some sad stupid people who see the lottery as a way to make money, and throw away the little money that they've got. There are also people who are tragically addicted to food, and people who play videogames to the point of neglecting their own responsibilities.

Only occasionally. That's mostly because my state doesn't have a lottery and I don't like driving to another state just to get them, at least not that often.
