I like both, infact I like most genres of music. To me its not about the genre, it's if YOU like the artist/band yourself or not. I like Disturbed, Metallica, Rammstein etc. but I also like Dr Dre, Eminem & then Britney Spears XD

B/S that a generatizion right there all my hip hop friends are highly narcissistic I made a thread about it a while back which got 200 posts-ish and the general consensus was that Hip Hop fans generally respect other forms of music.

who's hating other people. not liking hip hop / rap dosn't mean you hate the people who make the music. i dont hate hip hop/ rap because thats stupid, but i find no vailidity to the music since its jst a guy talking with a background beat, the lyrics are most often worthless too, about women, money , drugs, exc.. sure their are some political rappers, and some hip hop bands that are actually bands with instruments, but their are always expections, the majority however of these genre's are just worthless.
I voted for Rock/Metal, as that is what I listen to more. I'm trying to get into some rap (I've got some stuff that I like), but I haven't looked too hard.
I prefer bands and musicians that fall under "rock/metal" more often. But I do enjoy hip hop. And I love artists that do a good job blending the two together.

I like both, I have eclectic tastes when it comes to music. Even if I don't like a certain genre (country I'm not a fan of), I can tolerate it and acknowledge it as a legitimate form of music and personal expression.

This is true. Toriko only hears hate about hip hop simply because it's probably one of his favorite genres. Rock, metal and punk are among my favorite genres, and that means I only hear more criticism about the genres compared to others I don't pay more attention to. I really don't care if people tell me rock and metal sucks. I just listen to what I like to listen to, and that's what matters.
But I love hip-hop and I love rock. Separate of course. Cause when you put rock and hip hop together it usually doesn't go too well. Only person I can think of that does it well is Ghostface. Saul Williams is good, but Niggy Tardust was the only album he had that really even came close to being rockish. Thanks to Trent Reznor.

I listen to a small amount of hip hop, however nothing in the genre has ever really been anything I would consider a great piece of music...some of it is ok...but none of it can ever even come close to touching the awesomeness of the metal.:P
My problem with modern day hip-hop/rap is that no real instruments are used and they aren't really singing (imo). I haven't listened to Old School, so I can't really comment on that. The only thing that modern hip-hop could ever have over metal is a stronger beat, but that pales in comparison to the stuff that actually matters, just as chord structure, melodies, harmony, stuff like that.

Funny, the thing you think doesn't matter is what makes Metal my favorite genre. I consider the drums to be the best part of metal.

Turn on KROQ and you'll understand what i'm talking about true, past the 20 or so good classic rock bands, and then the progressive rock bands, the majority of rock is crap, on the other hand their are COUNTLESS amazing metal bands
