He wouldnt be as famous as he is now?

Eminem isn't famous because he's white. He's famous because he can rap.
UbiquitousAeon
Yeah thats what makes him so great if he was black his mic ability would be the same, but the subject would change. We would here more gangsta stuff about the hood/streets and here the "N" word a lot more, but thats about it.

[QUOTE="raven_squad"]Yeah, cause there's no famous black rappers...Truf89Who told you that? The lack of sarcasm detectors in these parts is resounding.
That's because he knew that him being white helped him stand out; it actually did improve his career even though most will say it didn't.Eminem thinks so, "Let's do the math if I was black I would have sold half, I didn't have to graduate from Lincoln High School to know that."
*edit* From his song "White America"

Well it comes with the territory now doesn't it. Who knows maybe he would be like POS who I don't think ever talked about hood life. Which is why my friend calls him an Oreo :P
A major part of his appeal is that he's a white rapper, believe it or not.
Loco_Live
no, the big appeal is that he is an amazing lyricist, writing songs such as Mosh, not wrapping about money and cars but actually using words to bring out his political opinions, him rapping about his hard times trying to take care of Daughter and past wife etc.

If he was black, I wouldn't care. The market is filled with black rappers. Eminem being white helps him stand out. But yes, his greatest appeal is that he's the best rapper ever.
I have to agree. He's a novelty. If he were black he would just be another wannabe rapper. It was hip for white kidsto act like theywere from down south or the projects about 15 years ago, but it was always silly sincethey came form mid town and uptown suburbs. Eminem is anovelty because how often do you see a white person THAT ghetto? It's bizarre. His dialect doesn'tseem legitimate.

Eminem is not the only white rapper today -- far from it, in fact. He's famous because he's provocative, supported by hip-hop legends like Dr. Dre, and even huge hip-hop fans consider him to be one of the best rappers of all-time. I'm not going to sit here and say that the "whiteness" has nothing to do with his popularity -- it is a factor. But to completely discredit him like you're doing is wrong.
[QUOTE="UbiquitousAeon"]Eminem isn't famous because he's white. He's famous because he can rap.scorch-62He's famous for being able to rap. He's notable in his profession for being white.
couldn't say it better ........ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5-yKhDd64s
Eminem stands out because he was a great white rapper(he wasn't the first good white rapper) with backing from a lot of the older black rappers. Before him white rappers were considered something to laugh at(MC Serch/Vanilla Ice). Even the good white rappers(Beastie Boys) were always seen as too goofy to seriously. Em changed that.
But on the other note, people ride Eminem so hard on this site.

That's a good point but I wouldn't declare him the best rapper ever. It's just like everybody saying that Lebron is better than Kobe in which he clearly isn't.I would probably class this as racist, race does not matter..He wouldnt be as famous as he is now?

I always wonder what drives people to say things like "Eminem is the best rapper" He definitely doesn't have the best discography or album in hip-hop He's a great lyricist, but he isn't the best hip-hop artist to put the pen to the pad He didn't add anything amazing to the genre in terms of lyrics or music He's a great rapper, an elite emcee, but what makes him stand out from the other elite artist in hip-hop like Jay-Z, Nas, DMX, Andre 3000, Big Pun, Big L, B.I.G, Rakim, Scarface, Half the dudes in the Wu, etc.[QUOTE="Loco_Live"][QUOTE="carlandcarl"]

Plus ive never heard a black person say that either, i know i wouldnt. If eminem is good cause he raps about things other than cars and money then what about rappers like immortal technique? not as popular as eminem but the last things he raps about are cars and money.
Immortal Technique isn't that good of a rapper. I like him but his lyrical ability is lacking. And I always tell people subject matter doesn't matter when you talk about best rapper. A guy talking about cars, money, and women can be better than a rapper talking about social and political issues. It all about lyrical ability and making good music. Using similes, metaphors, complex rhyme schemes, and other tools of language like juxtaposition, alliteration, assonance and etc effectively .Ok new question. Eminem is the best rapper ever? And I like Eminem, he's one of the best, but I just don't know how anybody can go into an argument with knowledgeable hip-hop fans and come through with a solid argument for him being the best everor GOAT.
Immortal Technique is not nearly as good lyrically. And "best rapper ever" includes ALL countries not only english speaking ones.Ok new question. Eminem is the best rapper ever? Your opinion.
