[QUOTE="Pirate700"]It'd be worth it to just be able to live like a king and not have any financial worries. and I don't know how living the good life could get old to you, but if you say so.

Idling and squandering your wealth isntexactly a good life for me. But whatever floats your boat.

Who said anything about squandering one's wealth?

Well.. since I am against prostitution, I'd be against this. Also, the high chance of chronic pain for the rest of my life, the loss of freedom to walk anywhere without needing to shop for a ATP, brings a price that cant be counted in dollars. While I know most are just being funny about it, I know all that money wouldnt make me respect myself again. I just couldnt do it.

CreasianDevaili

Chronic pain? He said it would be completely painless. And the hell are you talking about with prostitution?

By living like a king, I assume he meant just living a relatively good lifestyle, and buying a lot of the things he wanted. Not spending millions of dollars on useless things, or something outrageous like a castle.

Hell yes, with a billion dollars you can easily get the best fake leg on the market and still have tons left.

Who says you'd have to be idle? Money buys opportunities, and that kind of money can allow you the chance to do great and fulfilling things that you never could have dreamed of.

You're seriously telling me that you can't think of a worthwhile use for that kind of money?

I can think of worthwhile uses for my leg. Good for you if you like money more.

Money can buy you a leg.

A) Be broke and content, witrh limited means to do the stuff you love. Or...

B) Be so filthy rich that you can buy a new leg and still have enough money to do anything you could possibly dream of.

Anything you can do in A can also be done in scenario B. One-legged people have been fine athletes and have climbed Mt ****ing Everest. One legged people can live a VERY fulfilling life, and to act like losing a leg is so bad is an insult to the thousands of amputees who love life despite NOT being filthy stinking rich. The idea that losing a leg is so bad that it's not worth a billion dollars is an insult to the people who have lost legs without getting ANYTHING in return. You're basically saying that their lives are crap because they're missing a limb.

Nothing works better than my original leg. Unless the new one has jet packs attached.

And i insulted no one. If i am thanyou're saying people's life are crap if they arent rich.

Loss of a limb can cause chronic pain. I am just saying, nah. This senario is funny of course, but that is a reality. Also, selling your body parts or selling your body for sex is relative in principle. My uncle had MRSA in his legs, and they gave him a choice of getting both taken off up to the pelvis or he would die. He decided to die whole. He would have lost too much. If he wouldnt trade his legs for his life, I am sure 1 billion dollars wouldnt be enough. Sure, this is one leg, but in respect that such a decision, albiet alittle different, I've experienced first hand.. I can only say what I would literally do.

TehSupaBeatz

How often do you actually say to yourself, "damn, it sure is nice having two real legs"?

I'll wager that most people don't even notice their legs, until their legs ache or end up getting amputated. There's no inherent value in a leg. Legs are only awesome because they let you do things that can't be done without legs. And people tend to take that for granted, and don't even NOTICE their legs until they get chronic pain or something. If you can get a fake leg that does just about everything a real leg can, then how is the real leg significantly better than the fake one?

One point: I really have no idea how far prosthetic limb technology has advanced. I'm pretty much basing my argument largely on the movie Robocop.

I got to say.. I have absolurely zero respect for what you just said. Out of all of the people's opinions here, on all of the subjects, I have to say I have never been so confused by the logic of what you have just said. You find a single person who lost a leg and you show me where it says if they had a choice, and money in return, that they would do the deal. I just cant believe how insultive you just were. Just... ugh.

I know three amputees (not all of them have legs missing, two are missing a hand, which I'd imagine to be worse) and two of them have actually TOLD ME that they're perfectly happy with the limb missing.

THEY said it. They, as in "the ones who are actually missing limbs".

Just out of curiosity, are YOU missing a limb? Because when it comes to testimony about how awful life is with a fake limb, I'd favor the testimony of someone who is actually missing a limb.

Well, they are happy because they have to, and they got used to it. People havegot to make the best of things. Im pretty sure they arent happy because they lost a limb.

But from what you are saying, when amputees are given a choice of whether they can have their original leg back,or a billion dollars, all will go for the billion dollars. Which isnt true.

Adapting, taking a hardship, and being proud of remaining the person you have been is NOT the same as saying if they had a CHOICE they would do it. People who go through a hardship often come out feeling better because they have obtained something that many times can only come through first hand experience of massive emotional/physical pain.

You need to look them in the eye, and ask them would they take money to endure what they have, if they had a real honest choice. Listen, I will never understand someone like you. You are taking something that those three amputees are proud of having adapted and grown from, and using it as a wedge.

You are putting a price tag on their pride, dignity, and growth as a person in hindsight of something that didnt choose/want to happen. You go to them and point at that missing hand and smile, saying I would do that if I got a billion dollars. That is what you sound like man.

Zerocrossings

Except that I didn't say that. I was merely providing anecdotal evidence that there ARE amputees who are perfectly happy with missing limbs. And they didn't even get compensated with a billion dollars.

As far as whether or not anyone actually WOULD take the billion or keep the leg, no one here knows since no one is ever presented with that kind of scenario. I'm making absolutely no claims as to whether or not any particular person would take the deal. All I'm saying is "how could you not take the deal? It's a billion freaking dollars?"

So they only have a choice to take the billion dollars? Then thats not a fair situation to use for comparison againstthis topic. Its about trading limbs for money. I mean, if i lost a limb and got used to it after living for 20 yearsand someone showed up wanting to give me a billion dollars i'll take it.

Wow, you know those guys? That's amazing, considering I didn't even tell you their names. That's quite the skill, where you can tell me what people who i know and you don't are thinking, solely on the basis of me telling you that they are amputees. It's almost as if, all amputees are the same person, or something.

Sort of like how I speak for the entire black community, because I'm black and therefore by extension know all about other black people too.

All I told you was that those people were amputees, and you're trying to give me a lesson about the thought process of the people who I know? I kmow them, you're telling me what they're thinking and feeling, while knowing nothing more than the fact that they're missing a freaking limb. And you're accusing ME of being insulting?

Perhaps you do not know what they think as much as you say if you take what you said they said, when you asked them if they are happy as they are now, and apply it on a forum that you know three amputees who would take a billion dollars. You'd like to think you and your friends mindsets are complicated, but majority of the time they are not. The only thing that you've done, by your own account, is ask and get a answer if they are happy.

You used them in your retort to defend your opinion that a billion dollars for losing a limb is worth it because you know three people who have lost one are happy with how they are right now? After the fact and beyond the stage of denial? When they have accepted what it is?

You obviously havent asked them what the thread is about. So dont use them in your defense of your wacky logic. Just because they are happy right now does not equate to them doing it all over again for a billion dollars, before they are in the mindset they are in now. I wouldnt insult someone I call a friend in that manner.

If you think about it, working 40 hours a week for 30 years is 60,000 hours (which most probab ly end up working more than this). So basically is 60,000 hours of your life plus all the pleasures involved in being able to spend money to see the world and all the finer things in it worth one leg? I say hell yes.

Right. As opposed to you knowing someone who claims that they WOULDN'T take the deal, despite knowing that the topic in question is in regards to an IMPOSSIBLE SCENARIO.

Firstly, I never asked those people if they'd take a billion dollars in exchange for a limb, if they could do it all over again. Because that's a pretty freaking weird question to ask someone. I'm betting that you've probably never presented this question to an amputee either.

Secondly, if you were to find an amputee who wouldn't take the deal, then that is irrelevant since that person isn't getting offered a billion dollars. You can't state what they would do if this scenario were real, any more than I can.

It is a fantasy scenario which has never happened and is never going to happen. And in that sense, I can absolutely say "how can you not take the billion dollars?"

In that case, I would definitely do it for a billion dollars.

Sure, why the hell not, it's a billion dollars. If I had that much money I wouldn't need to walk anymore. It's not like I wouldn't be able to afford a prostetic.

The real question, the real test... would you give up your penis for a billion dollars? If I were senior or a victim oferectile disfunction... fine I wouldn't need it anyway, but other than thatI'm pretty sure I wouldn't. Withoutit life ispointless, lifewouldn't beworth living.

How bout it ladies... would you give up your breasts for a billion dollars?

I'd lose my leg, and use the money to buy a lovely big shiny wheel to put in its place.
