Which do you prefer and why:

Scenario one:

living a normal, fun, productive life. You have good friends, you have money, you have a partner. You enjoy normal things, like going out, drinking, eating...etc. You have a good Job, a good social life, and a good romantic life. You just couldn't be any happier.

Scenario two:

You are not crazy by any means, but you often find yourself on the verge of becoming one. You need to keep yourself in check, or else God knows what you may do. You are constantly looking for that other worldy thing, you are constantly looking for other things, things you mostly do not know.

I for one choose scenario two. Scenario one is great, but it gets boring quickly. Scenario 2 on the other hands, can be distructive if not kept in check. I'm curious to know how this poll is going to turn out. I know things are not seperabale like this, but choose the closest to you.

I'm pretty much perfectly content and at number 1 now. >_> Not sure I'd prefer, what, chaos? I did that for many years, it gets boring too.

The right kind of chaos is amazing. For example I pretend to be living a normal life from morning until I finish all of my studies and duties, and then boom, Frasier has left the building.

I have been there a couple of times, its evil, you really need to keep yourself in check. Live like you want to, as long as you don't go there too much.

All the best experiences of my life have been when i strayed outside of my nomal social existence. If madness just means you haven't settled into a predictable way of life, it really sounds quite fun. If you think about it, every great and godlike person in history has been in our position, unknown quantities. They took it upon themselves to elevate their lives to a higher tier, and you can do the same.

Well I live in reality #1, but my mind often drifts off into reality #2. Does that mean I'm living the best of both worlds?

Scenario 1, largely due to the fact that I think that I'm more related to scenario 2. No mental problems or anything, (maybe ADD) but just general inconsistency, lack of planning or foresight on anything in life and basically the overall lack of a routine. It's caused problems with my GPA, sleeping schedule and personal life. It sucks.

'But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.

'Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat. 'We're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad.'

'How do you know I'm mad?' said Alice.

'You must be," said the Cat. 'or you wouldn't have come here.'Pig and Pepper

When I was in my late teens reality #2 was all I really lived, but then I met my soon to be wife at the time and wanted to be a provider for the both of us. So I calmed down, basically did a 180, and now I'm living in reality #1. It does get boring, but you tend to have so much more in that reality. My wife knows this about me, and let's my crazy side come out every now and then without caring much. It helps keep me sane. If I had to be calm cool and collected all the time I would seriously loose my mind.

It sounds to me like your idea of being mad is practicing extreme sports, not boring, possibly destructive. When I think madness I think of the poor saps at the mental asylum, trying to fight your own impulses to become like one of them does not sound like a very livable life.

its quite different from person to person. I recall a couple of years ago a storm hit Gaza. It was so intense and strong. People stayed in home and all, electricity went off...etc. I, all of a sudden, decided to go to the sea. I went there and it was amazing. The wind was so strong I almost fell into the sea. Clouds were so dark and seemed endless. It was a little terrifying because nobody was around to help me if anything happened. One more thing I recall now in the last war on Gaza I decided to visit my friend during the war. He lives by the borders. I got there around dusk and after a while Israeli fighters started to strike the place like ****. Mostly it differs from one to one, but the general idea is that you detach your mind from reality into something else. It happens with several degrees. Some people go mad, some others just like to be alone at times. You know, it differs according to your psychological structure.

@ZuluEcho14 dunno man, I did not do it to feel the rush, I rather did it because the scenery was amazing, and no people were around. Also it felt weird, the storm and clouds, you know.

pfft. That's not madness, that's curiosity :) My mom and me went out in 80mph hurricane winds to check out the beach it was like a wall of sand like in magic the gathering or something. We stayed outside until it got to like 100mph (we had walked back to the house at that point), but then there were rather large sticks flying around so we went inside to avoid damage. Have no experience in any sort of war state.

Not necessarily an adrenaline junkie. If GazaAli wouldn't have gone to the sea during the storm then he wouldn't have the beautiful memories of the chaos that enveloped the sea at that time. Sometimes you need to go out on a limb to see / enjoythings that most people will never have the chance to. Throwing caution to the wind may seem like madness, but it's when some people feel most alive.

Hmmm I don't know but some people don't get it well. Its not about what you do, it differs from person to person. Rather, its about the state of mind itself.

The state of mind strongly influences what I do. Hence my drive to change it.

There's nothing wrong with your state of mind, you just feel enlightened because you have adrenaline pumping through your veins, that's like saying stoners are mad because they're "enlightened" all the time. I recommend you watch the movie "The Wall" it is based on Pink Floyd's members experience with another previous member, Syd Barrett, who was not all that psychologically healthy, try seeing if the protagonist is having fun.

I meant what you do is not what defines scenario two, rather the state of mind itself. Meaning that, you can be living scenario two while sitting in your room, or walking in the street just like a normal person. But the question is, where is your mind? Is it with you at this moment? Or its somewhere else? if so, then where? can you describe it? Or its indescribable?

Saying vague, nonsensical crap like that also doesn't make you mad. :(
