Which political party do you most closely affiliate yourself with, and why?

I am a Liberal Democrat, because I love progressing. I love equal rights for everyone, and I strongly value diversity. I realize that this country is made up of many different ethnic groups, that people are different genders, people have different sexual orientations, marital status, disabilites--everything. We are all different in some way... and that is okay.

I'm in between parties in a lot of issues. So I'm more of a moderate which is kind of like an independent.

I don't even see why people affiliate themselves with political parties. I think people are kinda brainwashed if they follow one party religiously. speaking of religion...

if all democrats are Communists, then all republicans are Fascist.

Generalizing a whole political party and it's members rule, doesn't it?

I'm very liberal but I firmly believe all politics are evil, however Democrats are the lesser evil usually.

I believe I said, "Which political party do you most closely affiliate with."

Meaning, that the political party you choose holds most of your views. If most of your views are Republican, you are a are closer to a Republican than a Democrat. It clearly doesn't mean necessarily that you will always vote 100% Republican--it means, and what my statement said, is that party is the party that holds most of your views. Which makes sense.

Since some of you clearly don't know which party you personally belong to, let me break it down:

Democrats typically.....

- Support welfare, and affirmative action. Generally oppose all wars, and the one we are in currently. Most Democrats support gay marriage. Democrats believe in the seperation of church and state, and the seperation from church in the schools. There are rarely any non-religious Republicans, but there are plenty of non-religious Democrats. Democrats support higher taxes.

Republicans typically.....

- Don't support affirmative action and welfare too much, want to lower taxes, support many wars, including the one we are in now. They don't support gay marriage... most are religious. They have a huge issue with including people sometimes ("War on Christmas"). Republicans put the 10 commandments in a court house.... which were then taken out by the constitution.

I affiliate with Libertarians because I believe that in the last century or so, namely during the great depression, the government has extended its reach into areas it shouldn't be so heavily involved in. I think this stems partly from FDR's new deal, and his kind of continued since then. I believe that the US government should receed to the base areas it was originally intended to cover: namely defense and public safety. If the US government focuses solely on its base values, I believe it will be able to do its job a lot more efficiently instead of being stretched too thin like it is now.

If you break it down further its basically this:

Republicans=conservative: Want less government control over economic issues (privatizing social security, secular healthcare, etc.)but more government control over social issues. Are generally more in favor of family and religious values.

Democrats=liberal: Want more government control over economic issues (government healthcare, education, etc.) and less government control of social issues. (Gays should be allowed all rights, such as marrige and military service)

Statists (who aren't in the poll, I can't even name any statist parties) basically want more government control over everything while libertarians want less government control over everything.

Personally, I think you should have added Liberal Republican or Conservative Democrat, but I don't think you have enough room.

Anyways, agreed. I really don't stick to one party. If there's a Republican I like, he's getting my vote. If there's a Democrat I like, I'll vote for him. Unfortunately, most of the reasonable candidates tend to stick to one side.

Personally I think they're mostly full of hot air and I'm sick & tired of the 2 party system. Unfortunately as an American, its my duty to vote so to pick a side, I usually go Democrat.

I try my hardest not to affiliate myself with Democrats or Republicans, mostly because both sides are ruining this country. Don't blame one side, they're both to blame, imo.
