Did some searchin on wiki and found out that this same exact thing happened about 10 years ago. This kind of situation was reported on Dateline or 20/20, too.

It was on CNN it cant be fake. They had the dad interview and showed the pool, and the girl.[QUOTE="IsNotInterestes"][QUOTE="cowboys89"]not to be an a-hole... but somethin dosent seem right about this story. it might just be cuz its not somthin u hear everyday, but is it a fake?Leo_Rules

What would be the purpose of faking it?
GS isn't exactly the most reliable place on the internet for news stories. What would be the purpose of me believing it?

Did the article come from GS? No. It came from an actual news site. If you don't want to believe it, fine, stay out of the thread, but just try to show some human decency and think for a minute if it was true. This girl has to be fed intraveinously for the rest of her life and use a colostomy bag. To just shrug this off as "meh" seems quite callous to me.

Personally I would write this off as an urban legend that managed to get itself into the news (which does happen occassionally when a local reporter fails to check their sources exhaustively). I say that because:
A) How does a family not notice a girl's small intestine is missing? There should be a ton of blood as well as a gaping hole in the swimsuit (I say they didn't because according to the site everyone thought she had had a seizure until the hospital examined her)
B) I'm no physician, but in order for the small intestine to get pulled out wouldn't the large intestine have to come out as well?
C) The story has all the emotional hallmarkings of an urban legend: a little girl getting disabled for life, and asking if she'll get on the news because she doesn't want it to happen to anyone else.
All that said, I'm inclined to believe this is real for two reasons: They give full names, which almost never happens with urban legends, and there's pictures of the girl and supposedly an interview of her family on CNN. So I guess its real, but it's still really hard to believe. I guess I'll just make sure to keep my butt away from every pool drain I come across from now on (not that I've ever entertained the idea of putting my rear end on top of a pool drain before).
I read a story similar to this one, didn't think it could actually happen though. That sucks.
The story I read was this guy would go and sit on the bottom of his pool and masturbait... he called it "pearl diving." Well, he would sit on the drain, because apparently that made it feel better :?. Then he tried to swim back up and couldn't because his intestine was stuck.
