Here's a link to a story about a minor league baseball team that changed the name of its mascot because "pork chop" is apparently offensive to Hispanic people.
The Lehigh Valley IronPigs' mascot was a large pig named PorkChop. Starting next season, the pig's name will be changed to Ferrous (derived from the latin root of iron, "ferrum").
The team's general manager says "We were really unaware of any negative connotations with the word pork chop." Me too! I had no idea it was a racial slur. When I hear "pork chop", I think of... y'know... PORK CHOPS (they're quite tasty with BBQ sauce).
