I agree, must be a slow news day.

I think there are much more pressing matters in the US than some guy telling a waitress she could lose some weight on his restaurant bill.

Clearly, he is simply expressing a genuine concern for this lady's overall health and well-being. He should be applauded for taking the time out of his day to perform a good deed. Well done, sir.

I think that's a great tip; weight loss is something we should strive for.

I hear about this, and I think the vast majority of the time it's a load of crap. The consequences of tampering with food are EXTREMELY serious. I can't imagine any owner or manager allowing that to go on in their restaurant, because they'd have way too much to lose if word of that got out.

I used to work in McDonald's. I saw what went on just out of pure laziness, such as people who drop something on the floor by accident and them just picking it up without telling anybody. I'm not saying any Clerks 2 stuff is going on all of the time but people will do what they can get away with in life. The manager can't be everywhere and not all kitchens have cameras.

[QUOTE="Just-Breathe"]Well, would "You could stand to lose a few pounds" really be considered an insult? I mean, I don't think the guy should have written it down on the bill but she really could lose the weight.sSubZerOo

That is extremely rude, this isn't a friend or a family member your being critical towards.. Its a stranger.. Everyone has something they should do to themselves to improve, that doesn't mean a stranger has any business of telling the person that.

Sometimes we have to be brave and not hide behind the truth. We are giving her important advice that will positively affect her. I see nothing wrong here.

The laziness thing I can see. As you said, a dude drops a burger, doesn't see anyone looking, so he picks it up and puts it on a bun and then doesn't tell anyone. That's very much different than getting back at a customer for being a jerk. If you're screwing with someone's food out of revenge then chances are that you WILL tell someone. You'll laugh it over with another cook or waiter, and talk about how you got back at that rude customer. And that's the problem. Word gets around. An owner could have his freaking restaurant shut down over that kind of stuff, he's sure as hell not going to tolerate that at his establishment. For many managers, that's their career for life. If they allow that stuff to go on while they're in charge, they stand to lose their livelihood and forever get shut out of their careers. Guys at the bottom level might attempt it. But like I said...word gets around. All it takes is for one busboy/cook with a conscience to hear about it and then go straight to management. I'm sure that deliberate attempts to tamper with food DO happen. I'm also sure that it happens a hell of a lot less often than people seem to think. The majority of instances of food tampering probably have more to do with pure laziness. And that's the kind of thing that'll happen even if the customer ISN'T rude or a bad tipper.

Regardless of terrible service, you don't put notes on a bill. In all honesty, the waitress should have told that person to **** off. If I was ever with someone that did that, I'd probably think a lot less of them, and re-evaluate why I'm friends with them.

Seems a good tip to me.

How else is one supposed to casually insult strangers on a day-to-day basis with little accountability in real life?

You can blame stupidity and/or ignorance in some cases. Some of these young kids don't realize the trouble they can get in. They might think the worst that can happpen is being fired and don't realize it could result in criminal charges, lawsuits, the place being shut down, or even the target getting sick or even dying from what they did. People do what they think they can get away with whether it's speeding, stealing, cheating, or contaminating food.

Sure, in the cases in which that happens. And I'm saying, I strongly expect that that doesn't happen nearly as often as people seem to think. Especially when people make comments like "do be rude and don't tip poorly, or else you can expect a nasty surprise the next time you eat there." In order for that to remotely be the case, literally every restaurant would have to have people deliberately contaminating food on a daily basis. There's simply no freaking way that it's anywhere near that common for people to deliberately contaminate food out of revenge. I doubt that there really IS anyone who thinks that doing that to customers' food is okay or tolerated. Any idiot would still realize that doing that to food is probably grounds for instant termination. And if they cared that little for keeping their jobs, they probably wouldn't be working there in the first place.

For crying out loud, this is stupid. "I have to see it to believe!". No. The dude called her fat and didn't leave a tip, is that really "unbelievable". it's not even that bad. And for all we know she was an ass of a waitress. I'm tired of people dramatizing everything.

Agreed. If you're an adult and an insult from another human being effects your emotions you obviously need help.

I live in Philly. We are the highest tipping city in the nation. I would pound that loser into the ground for doing that.

Some guys say this to women out at bars or wherever at times. The only thing that made it such an outcry for so many is the fact it was after a stiffed tip. I've had a $1 tip on $111.00 one time and had to pay over $3 tipshare on that table so in essence I had to pay $2 to wait on these rednecks. That to me is way worse. If you get a comment, just handle it. Money is the main thing. That's another thing people don't realize when you get stiffed. Not only do you rarely, if ever get anything on a paycheck, but if you don't at least get 3% of the bill total in tip, you're making absolutely NO MONEY on that table. Just something to think about.

Tips are meant to be out of generousity and they should never be considered income.

Other side of story please. It is easy to thrash the tipper but what if the service was highly unsatisfactory or if she insulted him in some way or another?

Hi my name is Mike.

I am a personal trainer and i love fitness, today i was eating in a fancy resteurant, and then this smoking hot waitress came at my table and asked what i wanted to order.

I just took a normal dinner menu, nothing to fancy, but i couldn't get her out of my mind, when she came back to check on me if I needed anything I coudnt help but starting a conversation with her.
I told her I was a personal trainer with my own gym ****evey thuesday en thursday night and she was very intrested about it.
We talked for a good 15 minutes and i complemented her on her body I aksed her if she would liek to join a session once time, she bursted out laughiing saying "nah i dont need to lose weight", i agreed but for fun?, she was hesitating.

So when she came back with the check i wrote on it "I think you should lose some pounds" and winked her as i handed it over, she giggled and knew exactly what i meant with that.

Do you think i handled this correctly gs?
