Part of a proposed 27 volume thing so the first one was mainly set up but I liked it well enough. But one needs to understand that it's less of a novel and more part of an ongoing one like say a pilot of a TV series, which is what danielewski has said and it feels like it.

And I hear you on the choices, never seems to be enough. If you want my advice, go with the AR if you want to stick with 223/556. You don't need me to tell you the availability of AR aftermarket parts, you can always configure the new one into a role that's significantly different from other ARs in your inventory. Or if you want to get into the short immediate 30 cal territory, check out the AK or SKS. Mini30 has MSRP of $1k which seems overpriced to me for a x39 rifle.
