Okay well if the school allowed it Atheists would whine and cry, and since the schools don't allow it Christians get angry and try to get the school to allow it. My plan is to bypass the school and town officials. Christian parents will all meet and agree on a certain time and then tell their children to start praying at a certain time. So this way at say 12 o'clock Christians will just stand up in the middle of class and start praying. Afterall, the school can't suspend 85% of its students, and besides it's difficult to suspend someone for praying. And this avoids all the political bickering among the school authorities.

I don't see a need for them to pray in school. They pray at church, at home. I'd say the school is a little excessive, but that's just me.

You can pray in school... it just can't be led by teachers/faculty. If it is led by faculty it could be interpretted as catering to one religion over the other. Students can organize prayers with teachers watching over them... it's just that teachers can't lead the prayer...

Seriously, this whole Atheism vs. Christianity/Organized religion bullcrap has to freaking stop.

I also want to add one last thing...

Religion is a private matter something which should only carry weight if you are in your house or place of worship. If you have to pray, fine. Do it where no one can here you pray, preferably inside your head. Now, if you have specific practices for worshipping like Muslims talk to school administrators/staff and see if you can be accomodated outside of the classroom (in the hallway, for example) and you can pray there. That is only if you have to pray at certain times and in a 'distracting' fashion.

A. We have a seperation of church and state for a reason

B. 85% of americans don't even pray, much less in public, at school.

That totally worked out well for them, especially considering France is such a paragon of religious tolerance and harmony.

you can pray in school all the hell you want. No one can stop you from doing that no matter how much they want to. What's outlawed is taking time out of class to let people pray.

Personally, I don't care if others pray, as long as it is silent and is not distracting to the others in the class.

I'm completely in favor of the separation of Church and State. These two institutions screw us up enough on their own, so both of them together is certain death.

Just pray silently: mandatory prayer for all students is a violation of civil rights, and praying at once can be a disruption, so this option avoids problem -- no one would ever know unless you inform them.

Those who want to pray should just do so silently and not distract the rest of the class, surely an almighty God can tell what you are thinking and doesn't need to it to be spoken.

no one is going to do that.. there is plenty of time to pray as it is and by doing what you plan you are just being difficult. why let christians have a special time to pray and not everyone all the time?

no one is stopping them, they can pray, so as long as the teachers or faculty don't lead them, and it does not disrupt school functioning

Or in the case of a Muslim student they can talk to the faculty and see if they can have an accomadation to step outside of the classroom and pray.

Hmmm i don't really know about other schools but at my school we can pretty much do anything as long as it is not visual (signs saying to love jesus and god). But we can wear shirts with religious things on it. I live in a pretty Republican/christian city so that kind of stuff is not bad.

Yeah well too bad this law also affects hospitals that are run by the Catholic church. If i were the bishops i would order the staff to disobey the unjust law, i mean what's the state gonna do shut down the hospitals because they won't give out abortafacient "emergency contraceptives" (since when is pregnancy an emergency, and these pills are more like abortions than contraceptives because fertilization has already taken place).

Because that's disruptive as hell. Theoretically you only need yourself to pray to god. If you're supposed to be paying attention, getting up and saying Hail Maries is a stupid thing to do and if the school allowed it, there'd be a lawsuit. This bypasses nothing.

It says that hospitals can choose, not that they are required to use Plan B.

I thought the first amendment already covered this. Why should an Aethiest care if a christian is praying. It's not like they're chanting or something. You can concentrate with kids having their heads down.

quite the opposite nowadays:?

I go to a catholic school and we had a mass today, when it came time for eucharist around 30% of kids didnt even stand up to recieve it. If the number of people in a Catholic school that dont pray/practice religion is that high then public school must have even less. It's ridiculous that other kids have to throw away educational time for such a small amount of people, if they want to pray they should arrange it so they can leave the class and go to a quiet room to pray.

Standing up in class and praying is stupid. That's shoving your religion in everyone's faces at that point. There's no need to stand up, much less do it in class. If kids really think that they need to pray they can go to the bathroom, in the hallway, meet up after or before school, etc. But disrupting class for personal purposes is stupid.

They left because they were being persecuted. Separation of Church and State came with the colonists who wanted to seperate themselves from England (No taxation without representation) but they formed the new government as a, hopefully, secular (without religious, at that time Christian, meaning) government.

That's a crappy solution. It should be like this: If you want to pray in school, go ahead. If not, then don't. It isn't even a big deal.

The world isnt just chrisitans and athiest , there are budhist, jews, pagans, muslims and so many others !

And this avoids all the political bickering among the school authorities.whipassmt

That would be disruptive. Kids can already pray in school by themselves. If the parents want teacher-led prayer, they should send the kids to a private religious school.
