I am an Egyptian-American. I was one when I cam to the states. Still, more than 80% of my family lives in Egypt. As the cultural/political center of the greater middle east, Egypt will play a key role in Iraq/Afghanistan's future. But......what do you think is their future? Afghanistan looks to stabalize in a few years, thanks to NATO and specifically U.S. troops. But what about Iraq? Even if Iraq stablizes, I believe it will never be the same. The Kurds want independence, and they, in my belief, are justified in getting it. Northern Iraq is so stable, the U.S. doesn't bother putting many troops there.

Now, I'm an American as much as Egyptian, and I believe what interests the whole country interests me. But I see the invasion of Iraq, not of Afghanistan, as unnecesarry. Bin Laden got a taste of his own medicine: the insecurity felt by the American people after 9/11 right at his door step in Afghanistan. But an invasion of Iraq was unnecessary and stupid. And Europe, and NATO in general, is doing little to help. I have a question for all Europeans: why do you hate the U.S.? We saves you in both world wars, the marshall plan helped you recover. We staved off communism till it collapsed due to its own weight. What more do you want from the U.S.? Sure, the invasion of Iraq was stupid, but no support means it will continue to spiral down into anarcy. France sticks out in my mind as the most annoying European nation, towards the U.S. and in general. I mean, serious, who shot off the Sphinx's nose. French troops under Napoleon :)

But an invasion of Iraq was unnecessary and stupid. peter1191

It may have been a mistake to invade Iraq but that shouldn't dictate what we should do to fix the issue. We can't go back, so dwelling on the issue of whether or not we should've invaded isn't all that helpful. With Al Queda elements in Iraq now and the possiblity of a regional war occuring if we pull out, I don't think it should be the optionwe take. Everyone wants the troops home but we should make sure that we don't make another mistake to try and correct the first one.

@ the OP: Eygypt will play NO ROLE in the development of countries that we affect. What in the world could they offer? I believe your sector is northern africa, and besides, aren't you forgetting Israel? Not saying Eygypt sucks, just that they will have no sway in politics for a loooong time to come.

The invasion of Iraq is not unnecessary. Think about the long term: The complete and utter annihilation of any potential threat to US ideals will ensure uninterrupted progress in the future. We WILL end up moving all troops to Afghanistan after we fix Iraq (and make it a basition of US-ness), and we WILL fix it. This will be followed by Israel probably getting fed up with the gaza peoples and nuking them, then with Israel fixing other arab countries. Prob even Lebanon, so that fatah or abbas or the people or whatever come back tot he government. It used to be after all funded by Israel and US. Folowing this, we'll prob invade every gosh darn country in the ME, then we'll focus our efforts on S america and Africa, where we have been donating much money for a while now.
