Lol what? People are actually pro-censorship? No, I want the truth, the facts, and how things are. Plain and straight.Â

Freedom of speech paves the way for social progression. So no I'm against censorship in most cases. Only time censorship is really necessary is kid shows.shadowkiller11Again, censorship is a necessary consequence of freedom of speech. A world free of censorship is a world in which someone's voice is being silenced. Censorship very often is a way for some party to make a statement, and taking away that ability is to infringe on free speech.
Hypothetical scenario...you hire me to write an article or a report. My assignment is to write an article explaining the truth, the facts, and how things are. I do this, then I also insert a bunch of editorializing about the "facts", and you don't like that because my editorializing is contrary to your views and your agenda. You then "censor" my report. You delete the objectionable material, whittle my report/article down to ONLY the "facts", but that is still censorship. Is the report now containing just the facts? Yes. Is that report also now heavily censored? Yes. Censorship and truth/facts are not in any way mutually exclusive. "Anti-censorship" is not the same as "pro-truth". Sure, SOME people use censorship to promote bull$*** and hide the truth, but censorship is also used to prevent bull$*** from clouding the truth. Censorship is a tool used to control information, but the incentive to control information is strongly held by both those peddling bull$*** AND those peddling the truth.Lol what? I think you may have put way too much thought into my reply to this thread.
Censorship is pointless because words ultimately harm no one the free exchange of ideas is essential for all kinds of progress.quiglythegreatAnd your statement is self-contradictory. If the free exchange of ideas is essential for progress, then that means that words have power, and that ABSOLUTELY means that words harm people. We don't even have to look beyond this website to see that. Review embargoes, paying for good reviews, and firing people for negative reviews wouldn't even happen if "words ultimately harm no one". You go straight from saying that words are powerless, and immediately follow that up by talking about how powerful words are.
What do you mean? Pro-censorship of what?Â
i'm against censoring violence, swearing and nudity in films, TV and games. But I'm in favour of censoring hate speech in public.Â

What is this, the rise of the zombie threads year?...
Necrifer
Yes. Â Every year.
I'm aware its happened in the past, but it seems to be happening more often. Like more than once a day compared to perhaps maybe once to 3 times a week in the past...I used to be 100% against censorship, however being a man of science and seeing how debates about some popular topics such as greenhouse effect, microwave ovens and nuclear power always have a huge degree of moronic nonsense brought to them I really wish we had the power to permanently silence some people.
