http://health.yahoo.net/news/s/nm/us_puberty_earlier "Girls in the U.S. may be continuing to hit puberty at earlier ages, according to new research." "The findings suggest earlier development than what was reported in a 1997 study and show a worrying pattern, say the study's authors, led by Dr. Frank Biro of Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. Girls who hit puberty earlier are more likely to engage in risky behavior, Biro's team notes, and might be at a higher risk for breast cancer, than their peers who develop later." "Compared to the 1997 findings from girls across the U.S., girls in the current study - especially white girls - were more developed at a younger age. As previous research has shown, there were also large differences in development based on race. At age 7, approximately 10 percent of white girls and 23 percent of black girls had started developing breasts - compared to 5 percent of white girls and 15 percent of black girls in 1997, the authors write." What say you to this? It spells trouble to me. More *pre*teen pregnancies.

White girls had a higher jump percentagwise(butchered that word, I know) than black girls. I think that's what they mean.

The % of white girls doubled, while the black girls doesn't double, even though the jump is higher.

i thought about maybe that's what they meant, but that's a pretty lame way of wording it, they should have just said the percentage of white girls doubled

If people develope earlier, they are going to be sexually active earlier. Which will cause more teenage (Or pre-teenage, in this case) pregnancies and other problems associated with underage sex.

Absolutely correct. "I swear I didn't know she was 9, she told me she was 16!" says the highschool kid caught with his pants down.

But you know what? Here's a theory. They don't know if this is limited to the US, so far it is. But what if it is the girl's bodies responding to society? We have such a sexed up society, the more attractive and sexy you are the better you will be accepted. What if their bodies are responding to the mental pressure and adapting, just another evolution to adapt to the environment. 0_o....

Which is essentially associated with ignorance rather than age in my opinion.

Thing is, it's not necessarily nature taking its course. It's theorized that there are growth hormones in the food we eat, such as beef and chicken, that are making girls develop earlier than they should. Really, girls are supposed to start puberty around the ages of 10 - 13. Now it's around 7 or 8 - 10 years of age, a lot earlier than it was before and it's a bit concerning.

The only appropriate response is to lower the age of consent!

Seriously, though ...

An MSNBC video on the topic linked the phenomenon to childhood obesity: A greater percentage of fat cells correlates with greater hormone levels which, in turn, precipitates early pubescence.

Doesn't sound like such a problem if their parents raise them right.

Well, of course, 7 year old kids shouldn't be having sex, even if the body is developed that doesn't means they have reached psychological maturity, they are still very young and they should be protected by their parents, still it exist the risk of pregnancy for whatever reason and that endangers the health of the girl.

That's the sad truth. Some put their babies in suitcases and stow them on a shelf.
